Good point Harty, - Vicente not a legend imo - top player when he occasionally played - Mark Gall top player back in the day but not sure a legend>, all subjective i suppose - Johnny Crumplin a legend though!!

To answer the OP, yes it's a matter of debate. People can only really talk of the players that they've seen. Plus with no clear criteria for what constitutes a legend then there's always going to be plenty of room for discussion.
FWIW, I think a legend is someone who is much loved and has achieved notable success with the club. Zamora and Dunk clearly fit that definition(from my 'era'). Murray with his 100+ goals and taking us from league one to the prem and then keeping us there really should be included....but doe his spell at Palace mean he doesn't get the full recognition/love that he deserves?
After that there are a number of players that could fit a level below - maybe a heroes level? Not sure there are many more legends though.
There are no doubt many great players from before my time(anything pre-88) but I don't know how many fit the description. Ward, definitely, Foster probably? Before them, Tommy Cook is really the only name that jumps out at me. I'd need the older fans rto put forward the names of long gone players.

Agree with the sentiment but Bruno earns it every much of those you’ve mentioned, arguably Murray too.
As scorer of our first ever top flight goal doesn’t Teddy Maybank warrant a mention?
Teddy with his magnificent golden hair. My favourite player growing up.

Just before my time: Norman Gall & Bobby Smith (just for the fact of who he was and the stories of how Brighton signed him)
Mullers years: Nobby, Wardy, Sully and Lawrenson (still the best player comparatively and through the mists of time I've ever seen)

Characters/notability/notoriety: Robbie Reinelt (that goal); Johnny Crumplin (football genius); Charlie Oatway (surname); Gary Hart (tracksuits); Vicente (a mxture of Bobby Smith and Mark Lawrenson)

Johnny Crumplin is more a cult hero, not a legend.
Very few legends, the bar should be set very high or it starts to lose its meaning.
He was referring to Norman Gall, which is why he mentioned defenders. NG played 400 games for the club.
As you say, Mark Gall played about 4, and looked as if he could dig us out of trouble single-handedly until his career ending injury.
I assume he meant Norman, rather than Mark.

Mark Gall was so fast but sadly his ball skills didn’t match his pace. When he did get it right he was amazing.
Gerry Ryan - obviously a legend. Anybody involved in the 1983 Cup Final is by definition a legend.

Yes indeed, the very same.
Character stuff aside this is spot on for my money. Sully is the most marginal on the list but I can buy it - Solly must be getting close too. If I was adding one more it would probably be Mickey Robinson who probably didn't quite do enough for elevation to legendary status. Certainly Lawrenson is the best player to wear the blue and white stripes ( quite comfortably in fact).
