How long before they rename ALL the leagues?

Premier
Championship
League 1
Division 1
1st Conference

It's like primary school when no-one was allowed to lose.

The Football League has changed the name of Division One to The Championship for next season.
In addition, Divisions Two and Three will be re-titled League One and League Two as part of the rebranding.

League chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney said: "The Championship' is a term steeped in the history of the League.

"Reclaiming it for our leading clubs will place a new enhanced emphasis on its status at the pinnacle of our competition," he added.

Mawhinney added: "Not only is it a gateway to the Premiership, it is one of Europe's leading league competitions, in terms of the standard of football being played, the high quality of stadia and the numbers of supporters attending."

Clearly from the response on here, nobody bothered asking any football fans whether it's a good idea.

Load of toss, and makes referring back to anything pre-Premiership almost impossible - what do we say now "Albion had one season in the 'historic' Division One, then several seasons in the old Division One, followed by a dip into the lowest division before returning to what is now League One and winning promotion to the Championship (formerly Division One, and before that Division Two).

'Reclaiming' it?? f***. King. Hell.

If they want to 'reclaim' the league's heritage, they should go with 1, 2, 3, 4. That has the crazy logic of each division's number actually representing where it stands in the league structure. I know it's bizarre, it's unorthodox, but hey....

What a load of complete WANK.

Why do these bumbling old fools and pretentious marketing fuckwits continue to try and fix something that ain't broken.

Irrespective of what it's called, everytime we're on the TV next season, we will be playing a fixture in the 'old second division'

Definately NOT marvellous scenes

I don't know what the matter with you lot.
Its called "The Championship" - that sounds f***ing GREAT !! Now we can say we are "competing in The Championship", it sounds so illustrious. Say it to yourselves out loud. "The. Championship". Caress every syllable. Emphasise it. Feel it. Feels good, no ? And if we are relegated, it'll only be back down to Division One, which is what we've spent all last season trying to get into anyway, so EVERYONES a winner. All the divisions sound quite prestigeous now, and remember, The Championship is the GATEWAY to the Premiership - wow !

You lot just don't like change. Get over it, and embrace our shiney new League. Its wonderful.

Yeah, but it takes all the pride out of saying our best ever placing was 13th in Division One!!!

Thirteenth shmirtheenth.
We can now call ourselves a CHAMPIONSHIP team. I can't wait.
Next week when I'm abroad, I can wear the stripes, puff my chest out, and tell all those natives that Brighton & Hove Albion are competing in the Football League Championship next season.

Thank you Brian Mawhinny. Thank you.

Piffle, now nobody will believe we were ever in the top tier of English football for four seasons. That's wank!!

But we've always competed in the Football League

and as they've changed Divs 2 and 3 to League 1 and League 2, shouldn't the Championship be re-branded League Zero.

and does the fact that there are now no "Divisions" (ie one part of a whole League) pave the way to a break-away of the "Championship" to become "premiershite 2" ?????

What the F**K. I am sure that this one is going to cause up-roar.
People who follow the lower divisions follow them because of the passion they have for there team. This is in contrast to many Premiership supporters!. No change of name will cause more true passionate fans to support their team more. This seems just wrong

I give this one a year at most

I reckon they should rebrand League One as "The Football Tournament" and League Two can be called "The Pub League". Certainly nobody will be confusing that one because Orient will be playing in it.
