I spoke to the bloke who does the fixtures last year.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/meet-fergusonrsquos-foe-the-fixture-list-planner-2052276.html

Clubs can't ask to be at home on certain dates, but they can ask to be away to avoid clashes with local events - so Albion requesting not to clash with Pride on Aug 13 was a clever way to ensure a home game the previous weekend.

Glenn also told me that most clubs now prefer not to have their main derbies on Boxing Day, as they generally get a big crowd then whoever they're playing. So that way they'll have two full houses not just one - not that I think a shortage of sell-outs is likely to be our problem next season.

A little disappointed with no derby day on Boxing Day, always was my favourite fixture at the Goldstone. I'm sure they won't expect a team and supporters to travel half the length of the country on Boxing Day so guess it will be Reading, Watford or similar.

There are plenty of local derbys we could have on Boxing Day apart from Pompey/Palace ... Millwall, Reading, Watford.

No, nothing whatsoever.

The no Boxing Day derby and the Crawley dove-tail thing is new to me. Not heard anything about this before.

Thing is, I e-mailed Martin Perry regarding the game possibly not being on the saturday and he replied that if the TV companies were interested in our first fixture the game may be moved to late Saturday or Sunday. He never mentioned Friday.

There might be some issues with the racecourse P&R if the first games is on a friday night.

I'd be very surprised if the game if the first game is on a Friday night. I cannot see the Police and other authorities wanting this. Best to try out the first full house on a Sat/Sunday I'd have thought.

Pleased to read saturday lunchtime is no longer being mentioned as a possibility.

It IS still a possibility though, unfortunately. Which would be a bit crap, as there wouldn't be much of a chance to try out those bars for a pre-match bevvy or three.

Friday night would be a complete disaster. Sunday lunchtime would be awkward transport-wise.

Saturday evening would be ok though, I wouldn't mind that at all.

I can't see it will be Friday night. Having the first episode of "Carry on Transport Chaos" around 10pm is just not going to work.

Tales of people stranded at Falmer until the first Saturday morning train services just won't do anyone any good.

Why the f*** do we have to arrange our game around Pride?? We were here first!

Homosexuals pre-date the Albion by a few thousand years at least.....I'd beg to differ that the Albion was here first.

Boo! The Argus article or Hillian1s reply from MP didn't mention it so I assumed it had been discounted.
It could be a bit troublesome as it will concertina people arriving at the stadium - who is really gonna get there at 1045 and start drinking?
As you say on Sunday the trains are shit (if running at all) and there are about half as many buses.
