Caught the last 5' minutes or so of it which was more than enough! However it would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

It was amazing, original, clever. Taking the p out of uptight fine dining, the battle of ego’s (e.g. impersonation contests), Coogan having success with women, poor old Brydon unlucky, some warmth between them, some darkness.

For me the scenes where Brydon and Coogan duel with their individual impersonations of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Mick Jagger and Michael Caine is some of the most brilliant comedy of the last decade, but my favourite scene is "Gentlemen to bed for we rise at daybreak"

For me the scenes where Brydon and Coogan duel with their individual impersonations of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Mick Jagger and Michael Caine is some of the most brilliant comedy of the last decade, but my favourite scene is "Gentlemen to bed for we rise at daybreak"

This is his best era for me. They’ve absolutely nailed him. KMKY was fine but they were still figuring out the character and he wasn’t always consistent. IAP Series 1 - superb. Classic telly. IAP Series 2 - looks weaker and weaker as time goes on - relies on catchphrase comedy and silly accents.

The latest run is stunning - Mid Morning Matters S2 is the strongest Partridge for me. I thought last night was a strong platform to build on, I also liked that it wasn’t a laugh a minute, but a bit more subtle.

I also think maybe the backstory adds more to last nights episode than people realise. It’s his first time back on the BBC after shooting someone dead live on air. The world of TV has also changed a lot in 24 years. He’s scared shitless.

Or ‘KMKYWAP’ to give it its full title....

Sadly I have to agree. Thought it was okay, but a long way short of being a classic. Hopefully it will warm up and get better as the series goes on.

Often hype beforehand, can lead to a bit of a letdown.

By contrast, with no/little publicity beforehand (or mention on NSC), in the past I luckily stumbled across the following comedies at their inception. All very good.

The thick of it and the film I the loop were done of the finest tv comedy ever made imho. Then VEEP cane along and that was brilliant too

I loved all series of the trip and agreed about the impersonations. However my stand out sketch was the Moore’s invasion of Spain. Rob Bryden stealing the show in that one.

As an aside , that Clunes travesty was absolutely appalling. There were some really odd lines in there too. Plus it took me ages to figure out why they called each other mate. It was only the other week I was singing Clune's praises over his performance in the superb Manhunt. I also like him in Doc Martin. How can he have got it so wrong? Mind you , he made the terrible and pointless remake of Reggie Perrin so he clearly has trouble discerning good scripts from bad. Either that or he's got one helluva mortgage that needs paying.

A confession, I’ve never heard of Veep. Holds head in shame. Just looked it up, it’s right up my street, so I’ll look to buy it on DVD.

Digressing, I have The Trip on DVD Box Set and I’m off work this week resting, so I’m going to dust if off.

If you have sky I think VEEP is in the catch-up/ box sets.

It really is exceptionally good and the actor who plays the Vice President is absolutely brilliant. It is very much like TTOI even the language, but seeing how the US government works which appears not much different to how our does is very clever.

But that's the whole POINT of this series. He's back at the BBC after a 24 year absence which ended when he chinned the Commissioning Editor Tony Hayers after shooting a man dead in the studio. Of COURSE, he's going to be guarded, nervous, anxious and NOT the normal Partridge of the Linton Travel Tavern. He's 63 and yet fate has given his career one last big opportunity - will he blow it spectacularly and - if so, how?

I JUSt thought the way the camera's were zooming INTO his eyes when he was off AIR SHOWIng signs of anxiety, seemed much more like the office rather than the Partridge who manages to spin his awkwardness onto OTHER people thanks to his high sense of SELF esteem.

Basically, it seemed like it was trying to use a new type of humour, not the one which gave Alan Partridge its glory

To come up with the idea, then execute it with nuanced variations of the impressions, at the same time bitching against each other.

Like Paul Whitehouse for me, in almost saying nothing, they make you laugh. I wonder if they are aware, that they make so many people happy?
