[TV] Alan Partridge: This Time

Feels way too contrived for me. The great thing about AP in the past was that always felt like what you were watching could actually be real, in some sort of horrific way. This just feels so scripted and over-written that the original idea is lost and the gags are signposted miles in advance.

Some good moments but still feels like a pilot to me.

Seems more real than Richard Madeley!!!

My wife didn't even notice but I chuckled HEARTILY.

It was great, watched that big three times. The arm flail as he toppled off the end had me in stitches. And funnier as it was a silent, unnoticed Burton.

Loved the way he "accidentally" read out the Tweets assassinating the late presenter they were paying tribute to at the end. Typical AP.

The glee in which he indulges in reading out those tweets "exposing" John as a wrong 'un, something unproven but where we'd seen a glimpse that it might well be true from past footage of him holding onto the woman presenter's knee for an uncomfortably long time, was pure Partridge from his early TV presenter years. The same applies to him exposing that pretentious Sam bloke as a daddy's boy - "son of the head of factual television" after that absolutely brilliant bit where AP follows Sam jogging up to the audience and back again, only to find he's lost his seat.

Just watched last night's episode and thought it was good.

As others have said, Partridge is at a different point in his career now, and recognises that he's at a last-chance saloon with the BBC and TV. He's struggling to try to make himself fit what he thinks is required.

The last few minutes of last night's episode was a return to Partridge of old, where he hit his "revenge mode" and took down his co-hosts in a way he knew they could not possibly respond to. The next episode could be interesting - have we just seen the first glimpses of it all unravelling for him.

Really looking forward to this, I thought Derek was superb too. I realise that Gervais is not to everyone's taste but I think those that like his stuff, REALLY like his stuff.

Second episode was thankfully way better than the first. I really enjoyed it with some laugh out loud moments which I didn't have in the first. Really very good. Can't wait until next week's episode now.

They have also tweaked Sidekick Simon to his detriment. On MMM he was the one who was popular and bright and way funnier than Alan and that was what Alan was insecure about. Now they seem to have written him a total bumbling idiot and it doesn't work in my opinion.

But isn't the dynamic both of them are shitting themselves because they're on live TV and facing a make or break career opportunity? They're essentially League One footballers playing Premier League football, the stakes are higher, the pond is bigger.

That was definitely the high point of a great episode, especially when he whips off his anorak to reveal armour and starts fighting with the peasants.
