Coincidence? Or did those having the online tantrums post Dam not have the cojones to head to Marseille

I was at both games - I don't recall any beer throwing at Marseilles - from the state of many of the fans around me by the end of the match, ALL of the beer was consumed.

I got covered in beer at both Marseille and Ajax. It’s f***ing annoying and I’m happy for anyone identified as doing it to be punished. Fortunately it won’t be an issue at Athens.

If beer was allowed in seats in the UK I would probably stop going to away games.

Yeah, I don’t recall any at Marseille but was in the top tier so maybe it all happened in front of me.

It was also about 20 degrees hotter in Marseille…

I was right at the back of the stand but still had beer spilt over me after we scored, but I think it may have been just some one celebrating while holding the cup in their hand, not luzzed. I can understand why the club would want to stop it, getting a plastic cup of beer hitting you is not pleasant and could injure someone, but I also think the people luzzing were not thinking about hurting/annoying others either when they did it. So, I think maybe having a word and giving a warning to those who did it would be the right thing to do.

I'm not going to share the email from the club, or identify the individual by name, but I can 100% confirm one of my friends has been banned.

He was kicked out by an Ajax steward after the goal when the remnants of a pint was chucked and then handed over to Brighton Stewards and Darren Balkham. He was then banned from Sheff Utd at home 'pending investigation'. Yesterday he received notice he is banned for 5 home games and Athens Away.

I agree it isn't right to throw pints, but surely the punishment of being kicked out, and missing a home game is enough; all this while the club are posting videos saying "look at these limbs" all over their socials. Stinks of double standards but doubt Barber will budge.

Neither Brighton stewards, or Darren Balkham, have any jurisdiction in Holland as far as I am aware. Please let me know if I am mistaken. Surely if questioned you would just say that you had slipped, thus spilling your pint etc etc. PBOBE really is not the rule maker in foreign countries.

Totally agree, and I witnessed someone being challenged and ultimately being thrown our for this. Seemed to be a recognition that it was an accidennt/not done on purpose but he still got chucked out. Felt very sorry for him as it was obvious what was going to come his way.

Don't bother arguing with PROBE on here though, he never listens and is even worse with an audience

It's a real shame, as I enjoyed having a pint at my seat before the game. Given that I had well over an hour to kill before kickoff it was a civilised way to pass the time. I understand the celebratory urge to luzz, but it is just selfish behaviour, pour the beer over your own head if you must.

I don't see how the club can be lauding 'the limbs' on social media and then dishing out bans. They even tweeted 'See you back at the Amex for more of this, Albion fans' with a video of one of the celebrations. It just looks utterly hypocritical to me.

Not really, the limbs were not the preserve of the beer throwers. Plenty of us were creating that scene without throwing beer over our fellow fans.

Fair enough. And agreed thats a tough sanction for what might be a first offence - would a warning on the ground been sufficient ? (anyway we don't know the details) . . As for the limbs video - then thats 3000 fans celebrating - 99% of them or more just jumping up and down - hence limbs. Its a stretch to say its highlighting or celebrating glass throwing (you can see a couple of glasses in the air if you look closely) and thus even more to call it hypocrisy on clubs part.

He can, and often does, whatever he wants. He and the club can make whatever decision they fancy regarding your attendance at games, both home and away. The circumstances, facts, justification matter not one bit. They can and will ban and not listen - I know from personal bitter experience a good few years ago now, which I will never forget or forgive. You only fully realise what you are dealing with when it happens to you.

You're misunderstanding the definition of "limbs".
It doesn't mean celebrating spontaneously..
It actually means deliberately behaving like a total twat, in a predetermined manner, for the purpose of being recorded on social media.

Loads of stuff in the Euros I recal, laughing/celebrating all the beer luzzing in the fan zones - turned into a bit of a competition as to who chucked more beer in the air, unsurprisingly Croydon fully entered into the 'look at me' competition.

Some may be forgiven for thinking that is what football is all about. Very daft I agree, but feels so wrong to celebrate such behaviour then ban.

Given it happened at Marseille, surely the club & Balkham would have been well aware that beer chucking was a very likely possibility at Ajax. Were there any warnings of the potential repercussions issued on any of the clubs channels before the game? I didn't see anything, but then again I would never waste a full pint...

It's a bit of a dick-ish thing to do, especially considering we have quite a lot of older travelling fans.

But a five game ban feels unfair if there wasn't any pre-warning, and as others have pointed out, it's incredibly hypocritical to ban anyone but still post limbs videos with pints flying everywhere all over socials
