I opened this thread expecting news of an unexpected sequel to Everything Everywhere All at Once.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this... Is there too much advertisement?

I feel like it's everywhere and it's constant. Yes, I mostly just ignore it, but can't at times help myself getting annoyed with the constant bombardment of (and interruption with) absolute sh*t. On TV, podcasts, internet, newspapers, street signs, emails, flyers, radio, social media, cold callers, apps, discount coupons, sponsors, letterbox full of irrelevant rubbish, etc, etc.

What would world look and feel like if there was a little bit less of advertisement? I'm sure one day one can have an implant that would block all visual and audible advertisement in a way that adblock type apps/extensions work on internet today.
I'd like the thing that makes trying to type on here move the screen up go away. It's infuriating.

There’s a bit of a misunderstanding about the basics of advertising here… 99% of it is creating brand awareness, so that when you are in a position to make a purchase and make a choice between brands, you choose the one you are familiar with. This is the power of advertising.

You don’t see an advert for a conveyancing solicitor and immediately run out and buy or sell a house. But when you DO buy or sell your house, their name will be in your head as familiar and “trustworthy” because of their advertising.

Nobody needs to see a McDonalds advert to be told McDonalds exists. What it will do is reinforce their brand when you are on Just Eat choosing between them and someone else.

The examples above re: Heineken etc. They’re pitching the product as a premium product that James Bond drinks, and you get in private lounges. The advertising in this case is about reinforcing the brand’s image as being a premium product.
True, they're in your head whether the advert is crap or in the Ridley Scott 'Hovis' class.

The point is that when I (and others) do want a particular product we say "Well I'm not getting Product X because they're adverts are really irritating". The fact we're 'aware' of them does them no good at all - although I accept that what some people find irritating others might enjoy.

This is bollocks. Every time I open a thread I get pop up adverts instead. I also get the same when I use the Amazon link on here. Sadly, I won’t use said link anymore until it’s sorted. As for the advertisers -

Curry’s
Unibet
Dyson

Your constant adverts actually irritate the hell out of me and I will NEVER buy any of your products or services. C**ts.

Just a heads up, I’m sure this has been said with the best intentions, but I wouldn’t post this here. NSC depends on ad revenue (or “buying yourself out of ads” by being a patron for £5 a month).

Encouraging using ad blocking software kind of undermines the operation of the site.

No need to apologise - I’ve just seen similar posts deleted by mods with the valid reasoning that if everyone did that and declined to be a patron, there would likely be no NSC due to server costs

I hear your frustration and it's not intentional.

There is something new on the site (to counter ad-blocking, as it happens) and it may be having unintended consequences. I've been told that the issue has been fixed, but your post suggests not. Can you answer the following please, to help me help you...

1. Are you saying that when you click on NSC internal links, eg to open a thread or to go back to the Big Board, you are getting other sites opening up?

2. What are you saying about Amazon link at the top of the site? Are you saying you are getting redirected to non-Amazon sites instead?
