As a local resident, i wanted to post my views on the proposed new Brighton training ground at the Mash Barn site. I am in favour for several reasons. Although we loose a piece of undeveloped scrub land which in a perfect world it would be good to keep; what we gain is a predominently green/grassy development - which I'd so much prefer to more new housing being there, which is always a fear. There will be new jobs in the area and knock on positive effect to local business too. I've also been impressed by what I've read about how serious the football club take their relationship with the local community since moving to Falmer. With two children at local schools I'm hoping, no expecting!, there to be activities for them to do there during the schoold holidays. From what I can see, we gain far, far, far more than we loose.
REF: Planning Application No AWDM/0205/12 – Construction of a Training Ground and Football Academy for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club with access from Mash Barn Lane
I am writing in support of the above application.
I feel there are many reasons for this application to be approved, all of which will benefit the local area and community greatly.
As a resident of the Adur district I am well aware of the lack of good sporting facilities in the local area, having to travel into either Brighton or Worthing for the closest facilities. As I am sure you can imagine, this is not easy to do when relying on public transport (having to get a train and then a bus or take 2/3 busses, both of which takes a long time and costs a lot of money).
I feel having a facility such as this in the local area would have a massive benefit to the local residents of Shoreham, Lancing, Southwick, East Worthing and surrounding areas, especially with the health of the nation such a strong talking point and the success of Team GB in the Olympics inspiring today's youth (and adults) to take up sport.
This is only one benefit of having such a top class facility (one of the best in the country) in our local area. There are also financial benefits for local businesses. Local builders will be able to bid to work on the construction, local firms will be able to bid to supply the club once the training ground has been fully built and visitors to the training ground will spend money in the local shops, pubs and petrol stations. All of which will have a benefit to the residents of Adur.
I think the club should be applauded and encouraged for wanting to make such a huge investment into the local area (reported in the region £30m) and it would really put Adur on the map. The impact of having a professional Football club in the area on the local children would also be huge. As a regular at the Amex stadium I have seen with my own eyes the influx of children all excited by Football and wanting to get involved, the same could also be said about local children with the training ground and the chance to see their favourite players in their area and in the same shops as them.
I am convinced that having such a top class facility in our local area will have huge benefits for the residents and businesses of the Adur district.
suprised to speak to a couple of lancing residents that hadnt had a email from the club,
as season ticket holders i would of thought everyone should of got a email from club
