I have seen Gruda a couple of times now , can’t see what he does , can’t beat a man, not a lot of pace , crossing not very good ,
passing not great , defensively not great
seriously?? thought he was excellent against liverpool. he’s made two appearances and he hadn’t even played a full 90 yet ffs!

I commented this week on article by Andy Naylor in The Athletic in which he claimed Simon preferred playing on the right and that was his best position. I challenged that as I thought he’s far better on the left. His retort was ‘Had I spoken to Simon personally to confirm this?’

Well clearly I hadn’t but I think most of NSC think he’s better on the left too! What do we know eh?(I know it’s very little obvs but even so I was still surprised by his confident assertion).

Find that really bizarre if so. His season at USG was almost entirely played on the left wing and his numbers were superb. Hence why he was seen as a bit of a potential successor to Mitoma, having followed the same loan path.

Think he’s got stacks of potential.
Wasn’t sure at first, but MoM in the league cup vs Liverpool, prefer him over Adingra already, because he tracks and can tackle.

He played on the left in the Final of the Africa Cup of Nations too and was very, very dangerous. Seems surprising he prefers the right side.

Best player on the pitch vs Liverpool. I really saw the light with him there. He's going to take a while but ad the kids say I reckon he has one if the highest 'ceilings' of the lot.

Really struggles to get into games as a sub though.

Gruda? The games ive seen he's struggled from sub positions. Getting up to speed. But ace against Liverpool when he started and could grow into the game.
Adingra! Sorry, looked at the thread title and assumed that’s who you meant

Starting Adingra to the left yesterday was a good move, thought he did well. Don't think it's a coincidence that he scored. I would say that he will score more goals than Mitoma if given the same minutes on the pitch. On the other hand, Mitoma would likely create more chaos and possibly more assists than Adingra. Adingra get some slack for not tracking back but I don't think Mitoma does it any better. Both are great to bring on as subs. Good to have them in the team, but I don't envy FH to choose who to start with. Can't blame Adingra for Villas 2nd goal either, Gruda should have done better there.

For now a half each makes sense. Disagree that mitoma doesn't track back. Always see him getting stuck in defending. He's useful at the back at times.

Mitoma is miles ahead of Adingra in terms of his defensive work, it’s like chalk and cheese.

The second goal last evening I’d look more at Enciso, you simply can’t trot out and think you have no defensive responsibility, there were 3 Villa players unmarked

He doesn't track back, I was at Villa park and it was pissing me off, he's not slow either.

A couple of times right in front of us, he and a villa winger would start from same position villa player would sprint (like Andingra would when attacking,) and he'd just jog behind and they'd leave him easily.

Well taken goal, did ok offensively, but letting the team down when out of possesion, he can't be arsed to defend.

I think he really was quite poor yesterday. Not as bad as Gruda or Enciso but not oceans behind. Almost as if he after the goal felt "well, I've done my part today". Like I've said many times, he is one of the best finishers and crossers in the squad and when he wants to, he does well defensively. But there are a bit of other things missing in his game that makes it hard to see him breaking into the starting eleven. Maaaybe this could change with six months on loan to a different team in a top 3 league (maybe preferably one of the bottom 3 PL teams).
