I know, and I don't agree with it. Taylor was honourable in the way he left the club.

I know you're being a bit churlish here, and they were great players. However, apart from Kuipers, Adams had worked with every single one of those players at Fulham where they won the league. I think it's fair to say that the fact he knew what to expect of these players, plus the fact he was given the budget to sign them, probably made his job considerably easier.

But in any case, I'm not disputing he was a great manager for us first time round. It's just that the way he left the club leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Plus the fact that the two times I met him, he came across as a bit of an arse to be honest, which left me a bit disappointed in him!

I never met him, so will take your word on it, but most people I know from Yorkshire are arrogant and have chips on their shoulders, if you saw the women from Sheffield (think Human League) you would be bitter about it too.

As for using his knowledge of players and their skills, isn't that what he was paid to do? He did a good job first time round and a poor job second time round. That has happened with loads of managers (e.g Mullery, Coppell at Palace, Mike Walker at Norwich etc). Maybe he had some good luck first time round and some bad luck second time round as well. But you make the most of the former and accept the consequences of the latter, and he did both of those.

He is neither Santa or Satan.

But my point is that when you've had such a glorious spell in charge of a club like ours you should be forgiven a lot of things. Facts are BHAFC are always going to have nine bad/mediocre seasons for every great one, so anyone who delivers a great one should not have a bad word said about them in my opinion. Let's not underestimate what Micky did. Had we got that appointment wrong we could have been in the conference very easily. Everyone rightly remembers the Hereford match, but the next two seasons were disastrous in different ways too, prior to Micky getting a grip of things. So yes, he came back and led us into the bottom four, but we stayed up and there is no real damage done. I don't think a flirt with relegation from the third tier comes even close to evening up the way he provided five years of trophies, success, great players and championship football - because none of that would have come without him.

I'm not disagreeing with any of that. I just object to the argument that we shouldn't be able to hold the opinion that he WAS utterly shithouse second time round, BECAUSE of it. Personally I prefer to pretend that there are two separate Mickeys Adams', only one of whom was a tactical retard.

I don't think many will dispute this, but there is a lot of rewriting of history of his first spell taking place too, rearranging facts to suit the prejudices of those behind them.

Has MA slept with any of our wives, killed our kids, raped and pillaged his way through the villages of Sussex? So why do some people wish failure on him for the rest of his career? It's fuckwittery (from a particular fuckwit) of the highest order. His crime was to insist on playing an out of form Adam Virgo in any place on the pitch, and bringing back Colin Hawkins too early after injury. As for the likes of McLeod and Livermore, they didn't work out, I don't think they were inherently shite, but never did it for us. At the time of signing they looked promising.

I have to agree I don't get the Adams hate either but I'm glad to see only a small amount of people feel this way. Is he arrogant? I met him several times when working in a shop in Brighton, he was always extremely pleasant and polite but maybe in his work he is completely different.
I and many people I knew were gutted when he left to go to Leicester but he was offered a better job. Wouldn't most people do the same? I always felt though that he cared deeply about the Albion and probably still does. Didn't he turn up at the Falmer marches to offer his support. No doubt his haters will say it was to make him look good.
Does anyone seriously think he came back here the second time, with the intention of getting us relegated. I don't know why it didn't work out except he seemed like a totally different person, suggesting that the players needed a hug!!! I just can't imagine him even thinking that first time round, more likely that they needed a kick up the backside.
I don't know what the plans are for the opening of The Amex but I hope if Micky is involved in anyway, he is treated with the respect he deserves.
I hope that he stays with Port Vale, they look likely promotion candidates and I'd be interested to see if he can be successful as a League One manager.

Was there not a lot of speculation that he suffered with board room interference in matters that should have been his sole domain as manager during his 2nd spell here.

Standing in the way of control
Port Vale have given Sheff Utd permission to speak to him. Surprise.

Must say the way he has spoken to the press about it reminds me of the lack of commitment he showed us and makes me feel a lot less sympathetic about the way things ended with him second time around. Still a hero though.

Hes been given permission to speak to United now so looks like its going to be a done deal.

Good luck to him, I know it didn't work out second time but will always be an Albion legend to me. He game me easily the best time of my Albion supporting life. Met him a few times aswell and was always a top bloke, and helped my football team out on a presentation night once.

What type of interference? Which members of the board?

It felt, at the time, that he had a carte blanche to do whatever he wanted. Shame he signed a huge amount of donkeys on long term contracts and showed the tactical nouse of Audley Harrison.

There was a rumour that he had a stand up fight with Barry LLoyd and could explain the long term contracts.

Adams second spell was destroyed by Dick Knight. Having sacked a successful manager in Wilkins it left Adams pm a hiding to nothing. The fact that Knight didn't then stand by him when things went badly says more about Knight than Adams.

It was a board decision to sack Dean Wilkins. It was only Martin Perry that was against the decision.

Adams wasn't on a hiding to nothing at all! He was given funds to build on a relatively successful campaign and push on from there. Instead, he spunked money up the wall on players that were not suitable. Again, it might have been Knight that pulled the trigger, but it was desperately clear that things were not working out and Adams was a goner.

He stuck with Adams way longer than any reasonable person would have, and he only sacked him when Bloom ordered him too.

I think you are rewriting history here, I find it difficult to classify a manager who lost as many matches as he won as 'successful'.

There was a lot going on behind the scenes during the tenure of McGhee, Wilkins and Adams that was political and counterproductive to success on the park, and whilst we love to speculate, none of us are actually ITK.

Cannot comprehend the anti-Adams drivel
Our trophy cabinet ain't exactly full and it would look even more poor without Adams
I don't give a toss what happened 2nd time round (shit happens)
He left us 1st time round with a perfect set-up and who can blame ambitious arrogant managers who want to progress up the ladder (after all, he had no historical links with us)
Very few managers do consistently well in the upper leagues and it don't make them shit managers if they don't do the business (for the record I think his stats with Leicester and Coventry was above average anyway on the whole)
I think Sheffield United should take him on, managing your town of birth would be most people's dreams and Adams would leave Port Vale in a very healthy state (they had been proper in the shit at one stage before he joined them)
I always wish all ex-Brighton staff well and especially Adams who will go down as an important part of our history
