If it greatly enhanced the chance of gaining promotion wouldn't it be a risk worth taking for TB?

No, we're not in the position of spending that sort of money on a gamble. We paid £300,000 for Murray so who would you prefer, three more like Murray or one Le Fondre ?

Le Fondre has 16 in 19 in all competitions, Holroyd has 6 in 9 for Stevenage (which is actually better than his rate for Cambridge when we signed him). So not quite the same rate as you said earlier. But still a fair point, Holroyd, Davies etc scoring fairly regularly in that division shows the difference in quality. Has anyone on here even seen Le Fondre play a game?

Yes I've seen Le Fondre play in the first round of the FA Cup last season against Wealdstone, he scored, looked OK but at over £1m he's a gamble. Tony Bloom is a gambler I'm not.

Saints paid a million for Lambert who was scoring on a regular basis for Bristol Rovers (who were and still are in the same league). Makes the valuation of Le Fondre rather inflated.

There's no way that Le Fondre wants to play in div 4 next season and by Rotherham asking for silly money he might see that as them holding him back and putting off any potential suitors

If it greatly enhanced our promotion aims then it would be money well spent imo. Unfortunately, he's still an unknown quantity at a higher level - so I can't see Mr Bloom splashing the cash this season. I reckon he (& Gus) will be more likely to aim at bringing a loan in come Jan, but obviously I could be completely wrong.

With the quality of service we can supply from midfield he would score a hatful IMHO

Totaly unproven at this level. If we could get him for £500k then maybe but what Rotherham is asking is a joke. Just look at Holroyd, Robinson, Davis etc. All bagging goals in div2 but not cut out for this level. Let alone a team looking to go to championship.

I think the price would depend really on whether of not they want to sell him, I doubt they'd let him go cheap, why would they?

League 1 and two are really not that much different bar say the top and bottom 6... Holroyd has confidence now, I think thats the key. Not that it's a significantly easier league.

How many people have even seen him play? Sure he scores goals in League 2 but so did Liam Dickinson, so does Craig Davies, Sean Harrad - there are numerous examples. Maybe it says something that he hasn't been snapped up by someone at a higher level.

This is just one of those things isn't it? A couple of high scoring wins against rivals and we get all the "see? 8pts clear, without a 25goal striker. We don't need another striker!" after a couple of goalless games we get the "We need a striker!" At least this one wasn't being offensive about our top scorer.

ive seen him play several times - he is a class above that level and one of those players who, much like zamora, would probably bang them in at most levels. the better players he plays with, the better he would be. with the amount of chances we've created this season he would have as many goals for us as he does for rotherham

trouble is rotherham are financially solid and have no reason to sell him - hence why they are able to put such a ridiculous valuation on his head

The way to look at it scotty is how much the club would make from promotion. Increased TV revenue, higher attendance levels etc.. This would comfortably cover any outlay around the 1.5 m mark, indeed we would make a decent profit.

Behave. :lolol:

Le Fondre would be a brilliant signing, I've been saying it since atleast February when I saw him playing against Darlington. He's a class above that level, and should be playing atleast in league 1. If we can sign him in january, we should. But we'll have to spend alot of money.

Talking to somebody who knows Alfie, as he is known, would never in a million years think about moving down south especially to a Div 1 side whether they had potential or not.

So it is ridiculous to even suggest it as it will never happen, so it appears.

Thing is most British players are vastly over priced, I remember Chelsea had a choice of paying £3 million for either Lee Bradbury or Didier Deschamps - obvious choice.

I would love it if we did get him, but unfortunately there is no way we could afford him. Even if Rotherham's valuation of £3m is unrealistic, I would imagine they would be unwilling to part with him for anything less than £1.5m
