Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will move for Liverpool trio Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano and Steven Gerrard if the Reds finish outside the top four in the Premier League this season and are forced to sell their superstars.

Personally I'd love to see this happen. It would f*** Liverpool right up for at least a decade. I don't dislike them, but it really is about time they moved over.

Torres will probably leave if they don't make the Champions League. Masher is off at the end of the season, I sense. Gerrard got his fingers burnt with the Chelsea f***-up and would feel he had a point to prove if they finish outside the top four. More and more seems to hinge on Aquilani - Wenger's claim that he turned him down for less money than Benitez paid was as demoralising as any of their results this season.

I'm quite certain that the reason Hughes was sacked was because he didn't have anything like the ambition that went with the money he was in charge of. If the Arabs really meant that money was not a problem then he should have taken advantage of the financial problems that the Liverpool owners had and offered £200M for Gerrard and Torres. That sort of money would have just been too tempting for Gillett and he would have sold to clear his debts.

Mancini would do better to start with the defence in January.

With the notable exception of Given, they've been a mess.

IMO it is very likely to happen. They are struggling for money and losing the millions that the CL brings would force the club to sell certain assets, and those such as Torres and the rest of the spanish contingent may leave if Rafa is sacked, which IMO is highly likely.

that what i love about the Sun, they just make up some speculation and people accept it. im sure Mancini would be interested in those three players, but all three? he really is need of a proper defender first, Toure and Lescott is clearly not a league winning partnership, he'd be better off going for Carragher.

Quite right: Liverpool may be shite and broke but even they wouldn't cart their best 3 players over to Manc City: I think the Sun is underestimating the power of the Kop (and not for the first time).

Personally, I think Liverpool could play there reserve side for a whole season

i thought they were.... :lolol: seriously though, they have a pretty thin first team with not nearly enough quality to match expectations and when ever they bring on a local talent from their youth/reserves they look quite good.

I love Man City's ambition, without intellect. John Terry? He was NEVER going to Man City but they tricked themselves into thinking it was possible, and if they think there is even a CHANCE Gerrard would go there, they're absolutely deluded beyond belief.

Mascherano, maybe. But Barcelona want him, Manchester or Barcelona... tough one that. Torres wouldn't go to a club like them, surely? If he wanted to go to a Manchester club surely he would go to the one with a history and a tradition of being the best in the country. I couldn't see him playing for an English club other than Liverpool, he'd be more likely to go back to Spain or move to Italy in my own humble opinion.

You actually think players are motivated by history and tradition? Here Javier come to us for 70 k per week we have won loads of stuff. Or Javier we haven't won nothing for years and in recent memory were in the 3rd flight of English football but heres 140k per week, where would young Javier decide to move to?

I watched the match at Wolves on Monday and they looked a different team from the one that Hughes had.
I know it was only Wolves but they looked a top side to me. The defence was tighter and their speed on the break was similar to Arsenals.
Maybe its the fact they are trying to impress the new boss, but the way the top teams are dropping pts this year then they may be close at the death.

Indeed. As ably demonstrated by Gareth "I'llneverleavevillaexceptforaclubplayingchampionsleaguefootball" Barry.

I'd f***ing love it Villa finished 4th and not City. :lolol:

If you cast your minds back to the summer Terry took an awfully long time before reiterating his commitment to Chelsea and I reckon the deal might have been closer than many people think.

The problem for City is that, ultimately, the Terry's and Kaka's of this world will not join the likes of Man City unless City are in the Champions League - it's a classic chicken and egg situation.

However, City have also shown that they haven't got the patience to bring the youngsters like Sturridge and Johnson through.

Consequently, they pay over the odds for the likes of Lescott, Toure and Bridge who think they've finally got their big payday and stop trying.

City have 2 choices: either wave an even bigger chequebook that that thrown at Kaka and Terry OR source the up and coming young players that Spurs and Villa have tapped into that are now making both sides formidable.

City DID look good against Wolves, but were raped by Spurs. I suspect part of the good form in the first 2 matches is the "beauty parade" that's going on for Mancini's benefit. Once they've lost against a couple of the big boys City will return to their inconsistent norm.

Unless Mancini brings in 2 absolute class defenders from Serie A in January, and you really wouldn't rule that out with the money they've got to spend.

I hope it happens, if only to help the likes Micah Richards fulfill his potential.

I don't think torres would join another club in England, he took a pay cut to join Liverpool and claims to have been a fan before he joined. If he was to leave think he would go back to Spain. Gerrard would not leave to go to Manchester would get far to much grief from the Scouse mob. All in all its the Sun making things up from Mancini saying he likes them
