This is worring stuf, especially as I only have 3 1/2 months left on my contract at a University that is struggling to pay its' staff wages.

Is there any type of employment that is safe at the moment?

I'm OK, I'm going to invest my money in pumpkin futures. I've heard they're looking good.

Mark my words

Just make sure you sell them before Halloween, before.

"All right, let's not panic: I'll make the money back by selling one of my livers. I can get by with one"

Just what we need...the situation was unsustainable with the Banks literally throwing money at folks who were never going to be able to repay. Some guy on Newsnight the other day was saying that the proper term for this is a "re-alignment" where economies return to their true level father than a artificial one where everyone owes everyone else billions of unsecured liability.

A mate of mine who is in Oil trading said to me that all of the major banks are sitting on tons of junk bonds which will become apparent when the veneer slips off as is happening now.

The only good thing is that the period of austerity which will now follow will enable millions to wipe the slate clean and start afresh provided they are smart.

Surely companies like Ocean Finance will thrive on financial crisis, as their target market (people who shouldn't be allowed loans because they can't afford them, but still have massive TVs and SkyPlus) will increase?

lehmans lease space to other firms in that building, this may be what you can see, i work just round the corner and may have a stroll past later , but it might be a bit ghoulish actually:eek:

There's plenty of people milling around outside. Mostly TV cameras as far as I can see. People seem to be going in and out fairly normally.

All the people that already owe them money will go bankrupt and default on their loans, hence OFinance will eventually go bust as they have worthless assets. Exactly as Lehmans have.

Well, one good thing to come out of this. The junk mail from people offering me loans and credit cards seems to have dried up.

Predicted by The Rt Hon Lokki 7 on 19th February 2008...

says tv... - North Stand Chat

I hope you heeded his advice folks.

Oddly enough, I did a large proportion of what Lokki advised (although for different reasons) and feel a great sense of relief at the moment. I was never mortgaged up to my eyeballs but I know people who are being hit really hard now their fixed terms are over.
