I know, but sometimes its good to run at defenders and make them panic a bit. Sat was a prime example. The game was crying for someone to run at the defence instead of playing long balls for Crouch who had no one to aim for.

Variety is the name of the game, and Lennon gives a bit of that.

The best thing is he is young and inexperienced at international level. He can only improve.

Heck of a difference in the quality of cross though !!!

Heck of a difference in the position the player's crossing from as well - if you're getting round the back consistently, the crosses only need be driven in to be threatening - from out on the flank, there's much less danger.

Does anyone really think starting Beckham at right-back is a viable proposition?

He can do many things but tackling is not one of them. He's not particularly fast either, and heading is not his forte. It's one thing putting him there with 15 mins left and Rooney / Lennon running riot but quite another for a full 90 against quality opposition.

His shortcoming also rule him out of the holding role, IMHO. We've seen him there and all he does is bypass the likes of Gerrard and Lampard with long balls that usually go out of play.

Needs to work on his crossing a bit. Hits it too deep too often after working a good position.

.....or wastes time and allows another defender to close him down and block the cross. Lennon's great asset is that his dribbling skill will force defenders to play deeper, allowing space for the likes of Beckham for his much more dangerous crossing, which is what happened yesterday.

To be fair to him, his final ball was improving dramatically towards the end of the season. Of course it is still a weakness - if he can add a killer cross to his game, he really could be incredible.

As a Leeds fan was devastated to see him leave, especially for only £1m. No one believed me when I said he had an outside chance of making the tournament.

He's great if you want a winger that will run at opponents and get crosses in as opposed to Beckham who will just pick out his crosses.

Ha. If only Leeds got a million for him.

He's a mercenary little runt. Hopefully he'll get food poisoning or chicken pox or something soon and be home before the postcards.

It is alleged that he took a drop in wages to go to Spurs so how is that mercenary?

You obviously have no idea about what went on at Leeds then.

Alan's move meant we still have a club to support. Job done!

Lennon has never been a Leeds fan, nor is he ever likely to be one. Thank God!

That maybe so but it doesn't make him a 'mercenary runt'

Given that you just said "That maybe so" over what I am talking about, how do you know if I am right (which I am, I'm female, therefore always am ;-) ) or not?
