I think Beckham was more effective when he dropped back for the last 30 mins as it gave him more options to pass forward to Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard. It also gave Rio and Terry an easy pass to Beckham who could then pick out the runs of Lennon.
So my team for Sweden would be.....
Robinson
Beckham Rio Terry A. Cole
Lennon Carrick Lampard Downing
Rooney Owen
Give Crouch and Gerrard a rest, give Owen and Rooney a game together to get fit and sharp, and see how Beckham can play at right back.

He's great if you want a winger that will run at opponents and get crosses in as opposed to Beckham who will just pick out his crosses.
Kinky Gerbils said:The only way I would start Lennon is for Owen.
I do not want to go through another World cup/ Euros where we are carrying him again with all the pundits saying you cant drop him.
Why not?
jonny.rainbow said:As I said before the game yesterday, England need someone on the right wing with pace.
It stretches the play and although Lennon's crossing isn't as accurate as Beckham's the defenders are lessed bunched and there's more space for and opening.
Either drop Beckham or move him into the middle and drop Lampard.
blockhseagull said:No Beckhams crossing
blockhseagull said:Sorry that is utter shite, agree that Lennon looks good but even thinking about dropping Beckham is absolute madness... he is the main source of our goals and without him we will struggle further.
I'd be tempted to play Lennon alongside Rooney
moggy said:oh, so becks has not had his most influential games for england in the middle of the park then?
just go back to the 2-2 qualificaion draw with greece when he scored from a freekick at the end.
becks run the whole game from the middle of the park.
still his best position for england imho
Marshy said:you make a good point and rightly so of saying beckham must play and then go and ruin it by suggesting lennon up front... !
owen and rooney and keep playing them is my opinion.
BUTTERBALL said:Aaron Lennon has been absolutely key in Spurs success this season and I have seen a number of performances where he has had a massive influence on a game for 90 minutes.
In my opinion, dropping Beckham back deep to right back and keeping Lennon wide right with Downing on the left is well worth persevering with. Beckham only really got into the game when Lennon came on.
I had a conversation with a couple of mates a few months ago about an England team with Downing on the left and Lennon on the right before they were even named in the squad, so was pretty damn pleased last night when the both finished the game on the pitch having contributed to the win.
Marshy said:Joe Cole still must play on the left ahead of downing.
Not even a debate.

BUTTERBALL said:Agree he has world class ability - if only he had a final product. He is just too selfish and really needs to bring other players into it more. I thought Downing did okay last night. Cole flatters to deceive although I agree he is by far the better player.
The Large One said:I'd consider this...
Robinson
Terrry Carragher A Cole
Lennon Beckham Ferdinand Gerrard J Cole
Rooney Owen
With a possibility of swapping Carragher and Ferdinand over if necessary.
