Does anyone know if the A27 between Beddingham and Polegate is still being closed at night times as I remember seeing some signs the other week stating that it would be closed for 2 weeks between 20.00 and 06.00 until the end of the coming week.

Currently it is due to be closed. Doubt highways will take football in to consideration. The diversion is through seaford at the moment although if you know the country lanes you can get back on the a27 just before middle farm

Could you get the train instead?

Could do but don't like relying on trains to Hastings midweek as you get into Eastbourne and then find the connecting trains been cancelled or delayed. The reason I ask is I'm considering parking at Polegate and getting the train from there rather than driving to Lewes.

As a local, I can report that this is a complete closure of the road in both directions - starting at about 8pm. Local traffic is able to get to local destinations only with the assistance of an escort (which requires a wait of up to 20 minutes, before it shows up, with a man who will dismantle barriers across the road).

Anyone driving from Falmer to anywhere east of Selmeston is best advised to travel via the Cuilfail Tunnel and then Ringmer and Laughton. Selmeston and Alfriston traffic needs to turn right at the Dicker towards Drusilla's. Polegate and Eastbourne traffic should carry on to the Boship Roundabout and then take the A22 southbound.

I strongly advise people not to try this if you're travelling eastwards. When you get to Seaford, carry on along the A259 to Eastbourne.

Incidentally ... anyone who thinks that SASTA and Network Rail are the champions at ****ing up travel arrangements should see what the combination of Highways England and Balfour Beattie is capable of.

It's grim oop north
I drove from ebourne to brighton last nite at 9pm. Completely shut no real diversions to go west. We ended up lost with loads of other cars and ended up going through upper dicker and lewes!

Absolute joke. Maybe a midnight closure would be more sensible

Definitely closed. Scenic route via the A22, Laughton & Ringmer.

It was a wonderful diversion on Tuesday coming back from Bristol adding 20 minutes to the trip home. Going to come home the Ringmer route on Monday as parking in Lewes.

What time does it open up again? Gotta take bro to Gatwick from Eastbourne at 6 am.

Edit: just seen 6 am it opens

That's the official line. Worth checking though, as it's opened a fair bit earlier than that on at least two occasions during the period of work.

I don't think the ruts on that road have been filled in since 1846.

lookong it up (to see if its a track i used to cycle) its apparently been graveled recently. is that a thing they do? looking on google maps, looks like a pretty decent track.

Thanks in advance.

I ended up missing the dirty Leeds game last week. Left work in HH just after 5pm, drove back south via Ditchling only to hit a "road closed, roadworks" diversion just after the village, which sent me STRAIGHT into Hassocks - and into another roadworks traffic jam with a particularly spectacular 4-way temporary set of lights at the crossroads that took FOREVER to get through. Then of course by that time, the bottom end of the A23 was stuffed with all the additional traffic going eastbound on the A27 for the game. Eventually got home at 10 to 7, contemplated dashing for a train to get along to the game in an attempt to make kickoff (minus dinner), thought "fuk it", and went down the pub for it instead.
