A259 Bus Corridor

I have seen all the widening of the road, but where is the bus going lol. I thought there was going to be some dedicated lane just for Buses and Bikes all the way to Rottingdean.

Its all a bit of a mystery. I live in Saltdean (only for another 3 weeks, hooray!) and have watched the roadworks / pavement widening etc and can't work it out for the life of me. The local cab drivers don't know what's going on and one I spoke to is married to a council highways officer and she doesn't know how it's going to work!

Just glad I'm moving back in to Brighton, the journey is going to be hell when the bus lane is up and running.

I have a feeling it is going to turn out to be a complete waste of an awful lot of money, a bit like the traffic lights on the roundabout at Polegate.

Initially I thought it was about adding extra lanes but they seem to have narrowed the road at the Rottingdean traffic lights. I came through tonight and the queue reached back past the Ovingdean roundabout.

Why have they got rid of all the mini roundabouts and why have they extended the pavement on the south side of the road between Rottingdean and Saltdean Lido. It still seems to go absolutely nowhere.

I started to look at the plans for this on the East Sussex County Council website, I honestly spent about an hour looking at the drawings until my eyes hurt.After that I still could not make head nor tail of how it will work.

Although they could have done the obvious and bulldozed the parade of shops in Rottingdean and the crap pub and run 2 lanes.

Agreed. But cyclists should be exempt from prosecution for damage inflicted on cars and their owners who take no care in keeping their distance, either following or overtaking. They should also be exempt prosecution for ABH, GBH etc. when assaulting the twats who seem to have their heads in the clouds and wander directly into cycle lanes or step out in front of you.

On the other hand pedestrians should be exempt from prosecution for ABH or GBH against cyclists that go straight through red lights at pedestrian crossings or cycle the wrong way down a one way street, especially in the North Laine area

How about strict prosecution of drivers that block cycle lanes, forcing cyclist to have to go anywhere near the numpties in their secure little tin cans that couldn't give a damn for anyone else?

I would agree with that if it keeps the menace of cyclists off of the pavement.

Incidentally I got fined 5s in 1956 for riding on a pavement doing my paper round.

It's a cunning plan by the car hating lefties. Make driving so goddam difficult and expensive, then force the plebs onto public transport. Doesn't matter if it's shit, at least it's 'public' transport.

As Lord Bracknell says it isn't meant to help. It's meant to make driving into Brighton harder and bus travel easier. The theory is that you'll all get so pissed of with the delays and queues that you'll stop driving and take the bus instead.

Actually I think it's a conspiracy between the government and the oil companies. Both have a vested interest in making driving as slow as possible so that you all burn up as much petrol as possible. Lots of revenue!

Because when space is tight, it's fairer to give priority to the vehicles with 70 people in them than to the vehicles with just one? Just a thought...
