[Albion] A question about Hereford

I thought we would join the Conference but be unable to be promoted back whilst ground sharing. Withdean would have been suitable. I have no idea if that is true or not.
It's not. South Derbyshire club Gresley Rovers were already Southern League champions but their ground was not up to Conference standard. I believe they inquired of the Conference if they would be allowed to use the Baseball Ground but were refused, even though they would not be sharing it (at least not with Derby's first team). The irony of this is that their 2000 capacity village ground would have been hosting the Albion in the Southern League Premier Division in 1997-8.

Excellent piece matey - hadn’t read that before!

Stunning. I spent that afternoon playing magic 'lucky' darts and getting excessively pissed on Hungarian wine (a big hit at the time). Emotional
Bry Nylon apologizes for the length of his post and then you two just go and quote the whole lot of it!

From my memory that was the standard away end which they gave to all visiting teams and they never sold-out the home area anyway.

Also I believe that tickets went on sale very early for this game and at that time no one had any idea just how important that fixture was to become. Our lot were originally going to go in fancy-dress for the last day of the season beano...When we realised it was going to be a relegation shoot-out we ditched the idea, as it would have been bloody stupid walking around like Dennis The Menace and Fred Flintstone had we just been dumped into the Conference.

Albion & England forever.

I think walking around like Fred Flintstone would have been grand whether relegation battle or not.

That was annoying to almost EVERY fan in the away end, as he was being a selfish knob about staying on that fence, despite the fact that every other lad on the fence - about 8-9 of them - got off as soon as they realised they were blocking the view. I’ve not seen that bloke, home or away, in the 22 seasons since. Anyone else?

He been about before and after and the lad lived along western Rd. He was on a big wind up that day.

There was a brilliant video on here once of the footage of Robbie scoring, but overlaid with Tony Millard's radio commentary instead of the TV one. Anybody got a copy they can upload or know where it is? It's still my all-time favourite bit of Albion filming.

One of those games I am so pleased to have been there for. I've already bored for England on this subject in the "Half Time at Hereford thread (a slice of fried gold right there). I can honestly say that it will probably never be better than it was that afternoon. A moment of joy so pure that very little before or since can touch it. There's all manner of life events that are magical but few that contain so much elation in a split second.

Unforgettable.

Just found these two photos I took on that day.
I managed to get on the pitch as one of the stewards was an Albion fan and he took me up to Steve as he was getting interviewed I asked for the photo on my throwaway camera and then escorted me back into the away end.
Great day out that will never be surpassed
