I'll always indicate left or right if I'm taking a left or right exit. If I'm going straight over I won't, because I won't be turning right / pulling across anyone coming the other way.

Anyway, I seem to have inadvertently stumbled into the most boring debate of my adult life. On a Friday as well. Time to visit the fridge I think.

That's because the thread has been highjacked. Enjoy your spell in the fridge. :glare:

:lolol:

Some very helpful advice, received with gratitude, neverthless.

If there were a thread about Mother Theresa on NSC, someone would comment that she was a wrinkly old dullard

I did. I am.

And the thread has hardly been "hijacked" has it, when its basically all about INDICATING.

Oh jesus, what am I doing here again.

I was always told "wait until you see the wheels turn" which I still do to this day.

The other tip I like is, if you are waiting to turn into a road with traffic coming from your offside, keep your wheels straight so in the unfortunate event of getting rear ended you'll be shunted forward - not into the oncoming traffic

Exactly this.
When I was a driving instructor, I always taught my pupils to look for a confirming second signal.
If a driver flashes headlights it means nothing apart from I am here, until they slow down or stop.

(Unless it's some BMW driver tailgating you on the motorway but that is another story and learners weren't allowed on them then)

I took my test in 1958 in Chichester.
I had to use hand signals for turning left and turning right, and for slowing down.

did the bloke with the red flag also, give hand signals or just jump out of the way?
