A professional performance at last (and that's just the phone-in)

It's difficult to compare two presenters on the basis of one or two programmes. The phone-in has a momentum that builds up over time - and it's the presenter who creates that. One of Harty's strengths (or weaknesses) is that he works on the fact that most of his listeners have grown to know him. And he revels in his own "amateurism". Comedy Steve has yet to establish that sort of relationship with his audience, but he comes across as what he is - a thoroughly professional performer.

Should Harty decide he's had enough, Steve has shown already that he is capable of growing into the job.

Thought he did rather well. If he seems less lively and cautious then that's understandable as he treads unfamiliar ground....although he's the guy that does the Albion podcast and is a comedian, isn't he? Sure would settle into the role over the space of a few weeks if ever he's appointed on a regular basis in the future.

Is exactly the point. I see Stephen regularly in his comedy guise and now how he would normally deal with some of the dins that call the phone in. I can hear him holding back, would be good to hear him let rip at some of the idiots though.

Steve had it easy after today's result as there wouldn't have been much to moan about. If the score had been the other way around, I'd like to know how Steve would have got on.

I thought it was rather boring with the Norman Gall love-in call's (I'm sure Ian would have sped the time they were on the phone up) and stopped listening to it.

Give me Ian WITH Jonnie Byrne any day of the week doing the phone in. They work off each other well.

Well Ive seen Steve down the Komedia and he is superb at the put down.
I also could definately here Steve holding back ...or was it me expecting him to give a numpty a roasting only to be disappointed at him having his radio hat on.

I like Hartys style but if he mentions Doris f*cking Stokes one more time Im going to lose what sanity I have left.

Guys, if you havent seen Comedy Steve perform you are missing something very special. I went to the Komedia last night and he wasnt on...ffs! Maff was good tho

today was much more listenable than the usual offering by harty, but maybe that was because we won

I agree with an earlier point that SG has yet to build that rapport with the listeners, given the chance that would happen eventually. I do miss Hawsey though.

I'm not going to lie to you, I prefer Harty aswell because I've grown to love his bizarre ramblings this season, and he speaks alot of what I think aswell. But the two times Mr Grant here has hosted he's done it very well and I can safely say he'd do a good job longer term if neccessary. That said, I hope the opportunity doesn't come up, I'm very much a Harty man.

The only thing I would say in constructive feedback though, "What's your point?". As a phrase, I don't overly like that personally.

Harty can be very annoying but at least he's a character. I quite like Steven Grant but for a comedian he really lacks much charisma. Striking the balance right between presenter and caller is difficult, perhaps Harty turns it too much towards himself but some people seem to be suggesting that the host should not offer much opinion, but I would rather have a strong opinion that can create debate than, as others have said, a string of callers all saying similar things and the host simply agreeing.

It's refreshing to hear someone without Harty's, shall we say, eccentricities, but I'd rather have the regular presenter anyday.

Probably only heard the fans phone in about 5 times this season,and without wanting to sound vindictive or picky i found them all bar 1 pretty boring,take the fan bit out of the phone in and it would be a ok show! oh also the dalek lady who reads out the texts,no flight announcer is she! Honestly there must be a way of weeding out the tiresome drivel some of the callers subject the presenter with,i even heard sir norm yawning away in the background,what i did like about yesterdays was the lack of presenter butting in as the caller was speaking and basicly changing the subject as ian frequently does,(slap hand).

All in all it was ok ,though as a poster has said very easy to turn off,but i suppose thats our fans fault,ya boring farts

Got back to the car at the P&R at about 5.30pm (did anyone else notice how long half time lasted?) and heard very little about the game. Got my radio on in time to hear Siraya (sp?) being cut off, then some crap about Lewes and Eastbourne, some old fool wanting to chat to Norman and then perhaps one more comment at the end. Plus the presenter keeping on about Slade references getting through - whereas in fact they didn't because there was virtually no Albion chat in the second half hour.

So from my point of view the last half hour was pretty poor. Also missed the Slade interview which I assume was at the start. Didn't feel well served yesterday.
