Seriously A levels mean f*@k all.
I got a C in Biology, E in Maths and failed History.
I am now doing my PhD in Biochemistry at Sussex university. It might take a little longer but you can still do what you wanted to, there are ways round it.

University was a f***ing hoot, best to do it when everyones the same age, I would strongly recomend it, the sex and drugs was out of this world !!

thats exactly why people A get into so much debt, and B the education system is so drastically under resourced, people treat it like a f***ing holiday camp

you can do the sex drugs and rock and roll while you work as well you dont have to be a lazy sponging burden to society

well done BAG by the way, and good luck to you

its only my as' at the moment, but im planning to go to nottingham to do a course in social and cultural studies that looks really interesting. And the night life is CLASS

Which Uni? Nottingham or Nottingham Trent? I spent a year in Notts and I found the Union at Trent to be far superior to Nottingham. Which, let's face it, is what it's all about.

The only good thing about Nottingham night life is Rock City IMHO.

Oh and Hooters...

ps well done ;)

Very true! I got two Ds at A level. Did a foundation course to get into Liverpool. Failed that. Got into Liverpool John Moores with my original grades and was offered a PHD afterwards. I thought sod that I need MONEY!

I read it recently in a student magazine that it was 7 women to each man

well done!:clap2:

Can I ask you (for professional reasons) why you chose Exeter?

Firstly; only Exeter and Sussex gave me offers and in retrospect I should have applied to Bristol rather than Sussex as I need to get away. The history department there (well, SHiPPS if you're gonna get picky) is rated excellently and I particularly like the fact that each paper is done by a specialist in that area. Also, that you can 'pick and choose' the bits you find most interesting is very appealing, plus you can do up to 25% of your course in another subject. Basically the degree course is very flexible. They have a lot of link with foreign unis, plus i visited and really liked the campus:)

Sounds good.

Still, that's the case with quite a lot of unis.

I'm not hassling you (I promise!) I'm just wondering what made Exeter different for you - as in different to the other unis with the same structures.

Bristol does indeed have a great history department, but you would have been subjected to some nasty right-wingery there (not that I know what your politics are - you might have appreciated that!)

Right-wingery is a big no-no! I guess what made it different was just the atmosphere and 'feel' of the place really as opposed to academic stuff as you are right; a lot of institutions have similarly-structured degrees. Everyone there made me feel really welcome and at ease when I visited. Plus of course it was my only offer, I was rejected from Durham, Cambridge, Warwick and York and turned down BBB from Sussex for the reasons outlined above.

May I also ask what your professional reasons are?

I teach history at a UK university.
(not one of the ones you've listed, mind - although it is very similar to Exeter and a little like York).

All the reasons you listed for your choice are very good reasons. As you can probably imagine, for unis like the one I work at (and places like Exeter), fighting for every student you can get is all part of the game and becoming an ever more serious issue, so having a bit of info from somebody currently going through the whole process regarding the bases for their choice(s) is very interesting (and useful). Hope you don't mind me picking your brains.

"Secondly, it's in Preston. The first bypass built in the UK was built around Preston, and that basically says it all. "

I don't think that's true... the M6 preston bypass was the first MOTORWAY in Britain, opening in about 1968.
