A Levels are a lot easier now than they were in the mid 80's. 100% fact.

Shut up you miserable git.

I think A-Level and GCSE students get an un-necessarily rough deal from people like you these days.

If the overall passrate goes up and everyone does really well, you get these boring middle aged prats wittering on about how the achievement is devalued because exams are easier, and if people don't do so well they get labelled as thick.

Damned if they do well, damned if they don't.

Well done and good luck to everyone who has got/is getting their results today.

Your use of the word 'fact' without a reasoned argument would indicate that they aren't. Or is it because you are a cock

I remember the Chief Inspector of Schools someone called Woodhouse I think suggesting a year or so ago that the current A level was not fulfilling the function that it should be. He stated he considered both the GCSE and A level were getting easier.

Little bit uncalled for isn't it? Especially on the day these guys get their results after two years of hard work. They don't set the curriculum or the exam papers. You can only beat the opponent put in front of you.

I was about to say exactly the same, I bet today's students work just as hard as they did back in the 80s. I know I worked my arse off when I took mine back in 2002 so I think your comments are totally unnecessary HB&B.

Fair enough. However I saw a 2008 History paper and to be honest it contained many of the questions I remembered doing at O'Level.

Thats not to say those who have achieved good reults shouldn't be congratulated and well done to them.

Don't forget they still had streaming in the 80's

Chris Woodhead was the chief inspector of schools 10 years ago. He works now for a company that runs private schools so he has a vested interest in attacking state education, he's scarcely an unbiased observer.

He's also a complete egomaniac, loves the sound of his own voice and fostering his opinions on others and remarkably unpopular within his particular world. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Well chuffed, my students got 99% pass rate (only one person got a U) and 55% of students either got an A or B. Not bad out of 173 student :)

*payrise*

If you worked in 'the City', such success would earn you a massive bonus.

In education , you simply get told that a) helping your students achieve such success is what you are paid for in the first place b) seeing their success should be reward in itself; c) be grateful you've still got a job.

We hear this patronising shit every year. Can you imagine a banker being told: 'Well done, you've made us another £10 billion today. That's what we pay you your salary for, and you should feel happy that you've achieved this result. Now continue'.

Different worlds that can't necessarily be compared and anyway, not all 'City' workers earn a fortune.
If you are that angry and feel so patronised,do something about it!Be careful though....the grass isn't always greener!

As for me, i didn't get my first uni choice but have a back up confirmed. Now its just the choice to take a year out and retake, or go to my back up.

Congrats to all with good results :drink:
