A. Hinshelwood banned from driving for 16 months........

On a serious note .... my 20 year old son was done for drink driving two weeks ago (he blew 55 on a legal limit of 35).
He got a one year ban and a massive fine. Which he deserved.
He is an upright decent lad who has never done anything wrong in his life before that.
I yelled at him and told him he was an idiot and he had let himself down and also lectured him on the lines that he could have killed himself or someone else.
But then he lost his job as a result of losing his licence.
He is now learning a very hard lesson in life and begins the task of rebuilding his career and more importantly his own self-esteem.
We love him and support him ... but he has to be responsible for his own mistakes and learn from them!
As some people on this thread have already said ... who among us have not made big mistakes in our lives - I still wince when I think back to some of the things I did when I was 18 - 22!

I agree with your post about drink driving but Adam did worse than drink driving.

He has been found guilty of hit and run. That is as bad if not worse.

Also not having any insurance? It's not as if he's hard up is it?

The whole thing together smacks of someone who is just out for themselves and couldn't give a damn about anyone else.

I didn't suggest the Albion should sack him, I said they have a case if they felt like exercising it. Do learn to read.

Many people, espcially people in a position of responsibility lose their jobs over this sort of thing. Clearly more than you would give credit for. It's just that this sort of thing is not shouted about from the highest roof tops.

I have NEVER driven with excess alcohol in my system, even the morning after and anyone one that does is an idiot. I am not sanctimonious on this issue, I just find the stupid act of drink driving a very ****ish thing to do.

hey I didn't say it was okay, it most certainly wasn't. What icompounds the crime is that he drove off and seems like his attitude is that of 'it doesn't matter'.

I question what is to be gained from his losing his job however.

I agree with you 100% Chappers ... I used to drink drive when I was in my 20s - and knew the conquences! I even followed a pissed police sergeant home from a late night police piss up! Not at all proud of it and thank God I didn't kill or injure anyone or even crash .... but I am sure if caught I would have blown at least 70 on one or two occasions!
But I was young and stupid and I guess growing up and having kids myself I learned a few life lessons.
I don't think we should judge Hinshelwood too harshly - as the courts have done that and McGhee and Knight may also have their say ... just hope the lad has learned a lesson and grows up a lot ...

Agree with the sentiment, but he's still a prick for doing it. As for losing his job, well I think there are grounds for him losing it. Afterall, as part of the job a player is expected to train during probably 70% of his working hours so that he may be as effective as possible for the remaining 10% i.e. matchday. What he has demonstrated here (aside from risking someone elses life) is a blatent disregard for the club trying to optimise his form in that crucial 90 minute period. I suppose that might be tenuous but it certainly isn't tenuous to suggest that he is bringing his employers into disrepute by his actions.

I personally think he is lucky to get away with just a ban.

I am totally against drink drivers and believe the sentances for those caught should be higher, prison, minimum 5 year bans.

Also, he was guilty of leaving the scene of an accident plus no insurance.

How irresponsible was he in his actions.
