Because of the fun and games with the NSC domain at the moment Lee, a Hartlepool fan, hasn't been able to join. However he emailed me the below and asked me to post it on his behalf...

Personally I thought that some of your players were disrespectful today, not because you 'ruined the script' as somebody posted. You beat us fair and square and deserved the win, no problems with that at all. Our red card was deserved, Boland kicked your lad, no arguments.

But to have some of your players acting the way they did at the end was totally disrespectful, kissing the black arm-band? Can that really be defended? I accept Elphick is a young lad, but I'd like to think our players would respect his memory if the same happened to him.

I hope your players never have to experience the week ours have, they wanted to win for the memory of Maidens, and for whatever reason, we didnt perform today. Its just a shame your players couldnt enjoy the win and go home with the earnt 3 points.

Just to give a fully balanced view, your fans today were excellent, and I'd like to thank those who left flowers.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Oh, and for the attention of 'Happy Seagull', nobody was singing 'I like driving in my car', but I hope you enjoyed making that post!

that seems pretty fair - if elphick did kiss the armband, i should hope wilkins deals with this in the right way by issuing an appology. as has been said, the fans were excellent today, think we raised a fair bit of cash as the hartlepool official coming round and shaking hands with us before kick off showed, and it would be a shame if one of our players ruins it in the heat of the moment

I think ELPHICK is the one who should be apologising....IF he did indeed act like a pratt.

Not that anyone will have seen/been paying attention from our end!

im sorry if this offends but im confused, did he kiss it it a way to say " have that!" or was it his own personal way of paying respect and a way of saying " thats for you michael maiden,r.i.p",?

from the way it is portrayed, he did it as if to take the piss out of barker doing it moments earlier

I was there but I didnt really see what was going on, as we were all going mental. I saw there was a scuffle involving Barker, and I saw Elphick being rushed down the tunnel. It was only after the game when I realised what had transpired. A pool fan walked past us and said "Your 24 is a discrace". At the time I assumed he was talking about the sending of incedent or the goal celebrations or something. A mate of mine was also verbally assaulted. I understand their emotions, it must be terribly sad what happened and Condolences to all involved. I gave money to the bucket collection, but I cant help thinking that they are over-doing the sympathy vote a tad. Its almost like we wernt allowed to win the match coz of what happened.

All in all , it was a great perfomance and result.

I have got a similar impression.

I also find it incongruous that the music playing on that You Tube clip is Tom Hark when the occasion was supposed to be so solemn.

I was thinking the same about the music. As far as I am concerned any club playing music after a goal is disrespecting the whole game and it far worse than a foolish young player making a mistake in the heat of the moment, as it seems TE did something.

What happened to their player is a terrible tragedy and people grieving find it hard to be rational. Best to apologise and leave them to it.

For F''ck sake verbally assaulted!!!! whatever next?... you go to football you expect to hear a few bad words.

Not when you are walking away from the ground minding your own buisiness. The guy also tried to phisically attack my mate before he got held back.

Watever next indeed!:bla:

Fair point Yorkie,

Tom Hark includes the lines "You have to laugh, or else you cry...you have to live or else you die", unless I am mistaken.

Somewhat inappropriate given the occasion.

I don't like music played after goals but Hartlepool, like a lot of other clubs choose to do exactly that. Hartlepool also play Tom Hark at the end of games. Given that appropriate commemoration had already been paid to Maidens, I'm not sure why Hartlepool should break with normal matchday tradition.

agree with that - dont see the problem in them wanting to celebrate a goal in their normal fashion

Read some of the stuff posted on the Hartlepool messageboards and a lot of it was well wide of the mark. I suppose it is not hard to see why though,a last minute defeat is always hard to take and added to that the emotion of the day already.

To be honest I didn't think the Hartlepool players handled it very well. You'd have thought recent events would've made them realise football is not the be and end all, but actually it seemed like the opposite and they looked like they wanted to fight us from the word go. I don't think we were dirty, we got stuck in but they were the more aggressive ones in my view, the red card being a perfect example. Cox went in hard as he tends to do, but it was a fair challenge, and their player just decided to push him over and have a kick. From then on they always looked like they were on the verge of boiling over.

Savage's moonwalk was probably ill advised. I don't think he should have done it. BUT this is Bas we're talking about, nothing was meant by it. I didn't see the Elphick thing but judging by the comments I've seen about the game in general from Hartlepool fans they are probably making a lot of anything that might have happened.

BOOOOOOOOOOoo thats you verbally abused again...

Now get your things ready for school tomorrow...

Football and the whole match day experience is to be savored.....

How many times has it been shouted " your Gay and you know you are?" Just because we are from Brighton?

Have you ever shouted abuse in or out of a ground?

Now you are saying your mate "nearly" got physically attacked?

How close is nearly? was he on the same side of the road as you?

Get a life and stop making it up as you go along..
