A comparison with last season

I know there have already been threads about where we were in the league this time last season, but I've compared the games we've played so far with the results of the same games last season. Obviously some of the teams have changed, so I've had to replace, for example, Norwich with Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds with Plymouth etc.

Swindon A Lost 2-1 / Won 2-1 = +3 points
Rochdale (using Stockport result) H Lost 4-2 / Drew 1-1 = +1 point
Sheff Wed (using Norwich result) A Lost 4-1 / Lost 1-0 = 0
Walsall H Lost 1-0 / Won 2-1 = +3 points
MK Dons H Lost 1-0 / Won 2-0 = +3 points
Carlisle A Won 2-0 / Drew 0-0 = -2 points
Plymouth (using Leeds result) A Drew 1-1 / Won 2-0 = +2 points
Oldham H Lost 2-0 / Won 2-1 = +3 points
Brentford H Won 3-0 / Won 1-0 = 0
Tranmere A Lost 2-1 / Drew 1-1 = +1 point
Bournemouth (using Southend result) H Lost 3-2 / Drew 1-1 = +1 point

That's a difference of +15 points! And it's no surprise that 11 of those are from home games (I hope the Withdean "hoofers" take note!).

We are top of the league and trying to play good football. Long may it continue.

Thank you Gus.

I'm not convinced that re-applying our results against Stockport for Rochdale, Norwich for Sheff Weds, Leeds for Plymouth and Southend for Bournemouth is an overly scientific way of calculating where our overall improvement lies, seems a bit flawed to me.

I think it can be more simply put - we're better organised, tighter at the back, have sorted out our home form, bought in some better players, coached the ones we've got to be better players, and further adapted to the new style of play. Its just a continuation of the progress we made in the 2nd half of last season.

This time last year after 11 games we had 10 points. This year, we've got 22. Thats an improvement of 120%. Thats how I like to look at it.

Easy 10 - I accept your comment, but as we didn't play Rochdale etc last year, I had to come up with something to make the comparison and, as I'm not very scientific, it was the best I could come up with!

Fair do's, I wasn't having a pop. Its always interesting to make comparisons innit.

I think in future, the history of this club will be looked back on in respect of two defining factors relating to one moment - BG and AG (Before Gus and After Gus).

At 2 years BG we were drifting hopelessly around at the arse end of this division.
Now we are almost at 1 year AG, and just LOOK at the progress thats been made.

BG&T / AG&T might be more accurate.

And, without for a moment making light of Tanno's contribution, my 'T' was for 'Tony'...

Well, Tanno is an important aspect as well of course. But Lord Gustavo of Poyet is the Prophet to whom we must bow.

[edit] You see, I assumed you meant Tanno and not Tony. So its best just to keep it as BG / AG I reckons.

Disagree. Without Tony, there would BE no Gus.

Well, there WOULD be, but he'd be someone else's Gus *shudder*

This is true of course. But with no GUS there would be no FLICKY FLICKY.

Tony has built the Cathedral, but it is at the altar of GUS that we must pay homage. I shall sacrifice eleven bats in Gus's honour before sunrise on the opening day of next season - one for each of his apostles in stripes that we shalt bear witness to that very 'noon.

Mr. Bloom is the defining factor in our current success story.
Unfortunately, to win football games in the 21st century takes cash - lots of it.

Ok, I know you can spend it badly, and bringing in Gus has proven to be an inspired decision.

But if Gus had flopped, Tony's money would ensure that we could still bring in talent both on and off the pitch.

That's something we haven't had for ages!!

We had 59 points last season and finished 13. If we'd gained 12 extra points over the whole season we'd have finished in 9th, 10 pts off the play offs.

To put it another way, if for the rest of the season we only gain 10 more pts compared with last season we'll probably be in the play offs.

Come worship with me at the Cathedral of Dreams. Let us pray and pay homage to those who dine at the table of Gus.

I am not sure that Leeds fans will take to kindly being compared to Norwich.

One set of fans are largely retarded degenerates who often find difficulty compiling their family tree as most have sisters who are aunts and brothers as uncles, they live in a cultural bywater and speak in a tongue difficult to understand if you are from a different part of the country...the other lot are from Devon!
