A family I met recently had two kids in Brighton kits - I asked them their favourite player and they both named Liverpool players and said Brighton is just their “local team” and Liverpool is their proper team, and they have the Liverpool gear too.

These situations make me far more annoyed than they should. It’s just poor from the parents, you know full well that those kids will most likely never step foot in Anfield as a home fan, just grow up and support your local team where you can actually go to the stadium and see the players.

I agree except that many parents don't care about football like you and I do, and they're happy to let their kids do whatever they like, without really thinking of their future as a football fan, probably because the parents aren't really football fans. As a fan who goes to games (STH don't you know) my kids had no choice but support Brighton. They feel sorry for plastics.

This is going to happen for a few years yet. Remember we’re only 10 or so years into having to fill a 30k stadium, a lot of the adults will support other teams but the kids will end up as Brighton fans. I went yesterday with a Wednesday and Spurs fan and their kids as well as mine. The kids will no doubt end up as Brighton fans but we can’t expect the new 10k or so new fans all to be born and bred Albion. It will be the case but not yet.

Going back to my original post that has been compared to some Liverpool kids being in the home end, this wasn’t the case yesterday. These people were 100% there to support the Albion.

Kids like winning and all the shiny trophies that comes with it! It's the job of the parents to educate and not fail them.
They'll either grow up and see sense or become plastic tossers that the majority of local football fans despise, watching 'their' team on Sky.

If I had kids, they wouldn't have a choice I'm afraid. They thought of my child walking around in a Man City shirt saying his favourite player is Haaland raises my blood pressure slightly.

Sadly, it has always been thus. I went to school in Eastbourne with friends who supported Spurs, ManU, Liverpool etc. Basically anyone other than the Albion. This was even when we were in the old First Division and playing in FA Cup finals! Nearest professional club to where you were born: to my mind you don't really get to choose your club.

By way of compensation my two year old grandson will not be supporting his local team (if PL would be a choice between Liverpool and Manchester clubs) and will be an Albion fan. Had his kit on yesterday watching on TV whilst grandad was at the Amex!

One of the joys of yesterday was the scarcity of City fans in the home end, something which has been a pain over the years.

Club are very clear that there is a zero tolerance of away fans and I guess no colours includes bringing a Man City bag.

Absolutely baffled why you’d have that bag unless you were a city fan though?

I find people who haven’t got a clue about football who attend without some basic research on standards and etiquette frustrating and they deserve the consequences.

Regardless of age, you don’t wear other club colours in the home end, it’s not difficult to understand.

I was watching the MASSIVE Derby earlier and there was an adult in the home end with an Arsenal Emirates training top on, why?!

This. It’s an evolution over time.

With our kids in Brighton and Hove parks pre the Amex all we ever saw were Chavs and ManU shirts on kids.

This is true and I bet there aren’t many young Man United fans around in Brighton playgrounds these days.
Liverpool and Arsenal seem to be the teams for non Albion kids to support.

Was always Spurs, Chelsea and United when I was young. My cousins supported Blackburn in 95
