[Albion] 93% season ticket renewal rate

With a season ticket in the North you get to watch the best league in the world for around £30 a match.

The quality of the football we’re able to see now is amazing….ok, there are the occasional “duds” (Everton comes immediately to mind), but most home games this season have been exceptionally entertaining.

From my position in the North I’ve seen at close quarters some iconic moments - the last minute winner against United, Pedro’s 98th minute penalty last week, and Danny’s winner against Bournemouth as it rolled tantalisingly onto the the inside of the post and over the line!

I keep telling myself these are BHAFC’s finest hours, and I’m going to do my damnedest to make sure I’m there to witness as many such moments as possible.
That's ok because you are fit enough to stand all the game and tall enough to see over the row in front of you. At 5'6" I had no chance.
I shall miss it, but I have my memories especially of the fun we had at Withdean, and the party conferences at the Brighton Centre. :jester:

Yes, we've seen some very iconic moments, but now I can stay warm, and watch instant replays on tv, so instead of one moment, I get to see it several times.

Exactly where I'm at, I missed more games this season than last, and I think next will continue that trend and if so, it'll be my last for a while :(
Yeah exactly the same. Its mainly my son that keeps me going because I enjoy spending the time with him. To be honest its the travelling that gets me down the most.

What you're thinking now is the exact same thing every single fan is going to be thinking at some point in the future. They just don't know it yet

There is a tendency (I believe) to see everything through our own lens.

If we're finding attending a little harder and moire of a faff, it's tempting to believe that others are moving that way too. If we're loving it and doing all the away games, again, it's tempting to think that's how "most" others must feel.

I'd guess that the reality is probably that whilst attending football is expensive, so there is a financial consideration, most of the ebb and flow is pretty predictable. My guess is it lifestage related in the main.

I didn't miss a game for years until my mid 20s. Then we had kids and moved away from Brighton, I went less. When my son was 5, he started taking an interest, and I got us season tickets. He discovered girls and booze and stopped going, but I was back in the habit. Now I'm approaching retirement but working flat out to top up the pension, I get to fewer games than I'd like (but still have a season ticket - on the exchange before you ask). In a couple of years I'll be retired and plan to watch a lot more. Lifestages.

That is really sad news M.

we had some great times through the years. I have come close to jacking it in and with the amount of matches i tend to miss through holidays etc,I do find I don’t miss it as much as I thought I would especially as I never go away these days. These new safe standing installations could be a interesting development.

hope you and ned are both well.

take care

dave.

I'm one of the non-renewers, sadly.

Can't justify it right now, don't get to enough games, and whilst I love the actual match experience, I do feel like everything around the top level football-going experience is slowly becoming more and more of a faff, travel is pretty awful, and yeah. Bad fan, I know.

I suspect when I'm retired/kids are older, I will be going to a LOT more games, just how life is atm.
Weirdly, as someone who IS retired in all but name, I have less opportunity to go to games now - as a consequence of making the slightly mad, but never regretted, decision to take on a 6 month baby when I was 57.

In the resulting 8 years I have managed to attend 2 FA Cup semi finals and 3 cracking European home games, so can't complain!

Including swathes of ESL and WSL ST hogs who rarely turn up and can't be arsed to use the Exchange  .

Hopefully the club's clampdown deals with this.
Sometimes for valid reasons though. Sometimes life presents you with unexpected stuff that takes you away from the things - like this - that normally you would do week in week out. I’ve not been able to go since October. I list my seat each game, sometimes it sells, sometimes it doesn’t and so my seat is empty. I’ve renewed though. It doesn’t make me a bad fan or a hogger, but sometimes circumstance provides a reason. Please try not to judge others, unless you know the situation.

I thought @Weststander was specifically raging against those that don’t list their seats

My mojo has never been higher but I’ll tell you why, I’m in my late fifties and I would have given up long ago on cold evenings, spending a fortune standing on shit trains from the North East, let alone, not to mention 72 hours in a foreign city with about half hours sleep in between!
However my son has turned 16 this week and one thing I have got right as a father is he is absolutely Albion mad, Has to go to as many aways as possible, goes when it’s pissing down and INSISTS on staying till the end (even when 7-0 down) and for some unfathomable reason wants to do it with me as opposed to his mates.

I’m not complaining
Kids are not stupid, you presumably pay for everything without complaint and sort the travel arrangements out?

That's me. I'm still going to be a member and get to occasional games but old age has caught up with me.
Thankfully, we're on tv quite a bit, so I'll keep cheering them on.
Much the same, I miss quite a few games but one of the big advantages of 1901 is being able to pass on tickets to mates without much hassle. If I had a non 1901 ticket I think I’d jack it in too. I am no longer a fan of getting to and from night games in the winter and am often away early and late season. Getting old is a bugger!

The evidence suggests these are the key factors as the ST fan base is getting older on average (see PBOBE previous comms) and more discerning/entitled.
The other factor is an economic one, where the evidence is driven by the general state of the economy as well as this year's ST price hike.
