My mojo has never been higher but I’ll tell you why, I’m in my late fifties and I would have given up long ago on cold evenings, spending a fortune standing on shit trains from the North East, let alone, not to mention 72 hours in a foreign city with about half hours sleep in between!
However my son has turned 16 this week and one thing I have got right as a father is he is absolutely Albion mad, Has to go to as many aways as possible, goes when it’s pissing down and INSISTS on staying till the end (even when 7-0 down) and for some unfathomable reason wants to do it with me as opposed to his mates.

I’m not complaining

The exchange is not available for all matches for example Fulham . Villa not yet on as I would buy ticket for a friend near my seat but can't.
I expect it to open imminently for those games, and in any case it's available for the vast majority:shrug:

93% is still decent but the reduction in rate is understandable given difficult economic conditions and the continuing post-Covid travel issues.

Rather than be snarky about the rate I’d have to wonder what it would have been without both the direct debit and funded travel schemes. A lot lower I reckon, so hats off to the club for continuing to offer both.
Simply no direct debt option no season tickets for me/us

It's hardly surprising season tickets are so popular when (no cup) individual tickets are so expensive and it's the only was to sit with your mates.

You can still list your tickets in anticipation if you can’t go - that avoids the potential sanctions for non-usage.

I'm in two minds now as to whether the club genuinely welcome a high ST renewal rate, knowing that they probably could 'of' sold that seat at a higher price per match to a football tourist. And, no, I'm not being snarky

If that were the case they would take the downturn in numbers as an opportunity to make those tickets available on a match by match basis, but it looks like they will be sold as ST.

No - I think the club are well aware of the difficulty in selling game-by-game tickets - demand is very fragile particularly for evening games, even more so if the game is televised.

There were over 4k exchange tickets available for the Chelsea league game - yes it was Valentine's Day and the Friday night of a half-term break, but a lot of people didn't want to go, and there was noone around to buy up the tickets.

Additionally, we price our home Cup tickets very reasonably compared to many clubs. £30 for a Cup quarter-final feels very fair - that will only be done because the club know that getting c25,000 people to buy a one-off ticket is still quite hard work for them.

Chelsea exchange tickets were 65 quid each. It’s clearly difficult to shift tickets anyway, let alone at that price.

Good points, well made 👏

Yes going with your teenager almost gives you something like a second childhood, it's fun as you experience football through their eyes rather than my eyes, a jaded old prune

As the father of two now twenty-something Albion fans, I can clear up the 'unfathomable' reason for you. It is because you PAY for everything!

Agree Had several potential guest wanting to go to Chelsea league game but changed mind when they saw the price. They would have joined me on Seagull Travel but that is now over £20

I'm one of the non-renewers, sadly.

Can't justify it right now, don't get to enough games, and whilst I love the actual match experience, I do feel like everything around the top level football-going experience is slowly becoming more and more of a faff, travel is pretty awful, and yeah. Bad fan, I know.

I suspect when I'm retired/kids are older, I will be going to a LOT more games, just how life is atm.
Life is a roller coaster both financially and with family commitments.
Don't beat yourself up, you are still as dedicated as everyone else.
Fortunately I've been able to renew (even though I miss about 8 games a season due to work).

As a bit of reassurance to you, for every home game attended I have always been able to buy a ticket in the same block as mine for a mate who likes to come along when I attend.
I have never failed to get him a ticket over several seasons by using general sale or the ticket exchange.

In some ways not having a season ticket can be a lot more flexible.
All you need is an Albion+ membership, it would of been enough to get you a Marseille away ticket last season!

To be clear, I'm not being snarky at all.

When I saw the 93% figure, I simply thought "how does that compare to last year?"

93% v 95% is just a few hundred people - the difference is not particularly significant.

And, yes, I've said it many times myself - if I had to pay for my two season tickets as a lump sum once a year, I simply wouldn't be able to renew. I'd revert to picking and choosing games. The direct debit scheme, with no addtional fees/interest - is fantastic for many thousands of us.
I know, but to be clear I have been guilty of snarkyness myself in the past!

Very similar to you, my daughter was a little bit older when we got our Amex ST when it opened, along with my wife, and I took my daughter around the country to away games through the Championship and into the PL and now she is into her 30's she and her partner travel to almost all away games including all the European games last year. Now I am taking my next door neighbour's 11 year old boy to away games where he can get tickets, we have already travelled a good distance this season with more to add this weekend and yes he stood right until the end of the 0-7, was plain to see on TNT at that game as well :lolol:

Is there still a ST waiting list? If so, presumably the shortfall will be made up by those who have not been able to get one before, but are on the list? So, while renewal numbers of those in the 90s might be impressive and – quite rightly – something to shout about, in reality if the same amount of STs end up getting sold, then it makes no difference?

The male Bobkin Jnrs – now 21 and 16 – have been coming with me since the second season at the Amex and still absolutely love it. We've only done home games, but I absolutely love it with them and I'd like to think that they prefer being with me rather than their mates (and I don't have to pay for anything anymore (not on matchdays, anyway!).

They were talking the other day about the future when they plan to take their kids to games and 'Grandad' is very much expected to be tagging along. Probably THEN I'll be paying for stuff again :lolol:
