I think the problem stems from the fact that over the last "quite a few years" these people who are scamming there benefits, have been able to tell there Doctor, whoever, whatever they like and get away with it, however weak the excuse, no one has ever called them a liar or challenged them about it.

Now the government / authorities are going to try to do something about it, and the weak excuses just wont stand, but they have been so used to repeating the crap, they dont know what to say for the best now.

And Rightly so!!!!

I went to the doctor a while ago and I was encouraged to fill out a form that calculates a score if you are suffering from depression. It is extremely easy to falsify. There are no real tests. It would be very easy to play it up and abuse the system.

Your doctor doesnt decide if you get benefit or not though does he?

The DWP have their own doctors that decide that. Your doctor writes a sick note on the basis of what you tell him is wrong with you and what your job is. Your employer (if you have one) then pays you sick money if you are entitled it for however long you are entitled to it.

If you are not entitled to any, or if it runs out and you are still sick, or if you are unemployed or self employed, you claim benefits. The DWP doctors then carry out tests to decide if you are able to do any work apart from your normal occupation.

It is these tests that are going to be made tougher to get more people back into work, or more likely onto to Job Seekers Allowance.

what puzzles me is that this thread was started at 10.35 on a work day nd it is now 12 45 on the same day. Assuming those that are moaning about the fat and lazy scroungers arent hypocritical enough to be unemployed themselves, why are you not hard at work earning the pay that your employers are paying you for.

Now I accept some of you will be students, in which case i'd suggest you do some studying of pop back to bed, whichever is easier. Some may be self employed, although Id wonder how you had time in a recession to be sitting posting nonsense rather than making money. However im guessing rather than being lazy disabled scroungers, youre in fact lazy employed scroungers. wasting time posting, whilst youre supposed to be working. Pot meet kettle springs to mind.

And I'm in deaths waiting room

ie retired.

And this ones making socially acceptable to be unemployed by putting millions out of work.

I'd prefer to say this one is dealing with a situation that has been created by the previous Government; we have been living well beyond our means, they have created a society that expects everything on a plate and have left us royally up the creek without a paddle.

It's basic economics, we either cut our spending or lose our credit rating, lose our credit rating and we won't be worrying about 2m unemployed.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't wish that on anyone but it's a fact of life, a fact of borrowing far more than w ecan afford by a Government who shouted from the roofs tops that we had left the period of boom and bust economics.

We created jobs to fudge the figures and now we pay the price.

That is a remarkably sweeping statement surely there are endless reasons why people can type at 10.35, 12.45 or 17.11 without shirking, riping off their employers or anybody else for that matter... pot meet kettle, come on?

The doctor's opinion is considered though, I agree with BOF here, a lot of people suffering from depression are laughing at the system.

I'm not sure I would go as far as saying people suffering from depression are laughing at the system. The complete opposite in fact. There are long waiting lists for forms of help as wellm

However, it is very easy to fake a condition by ticking a few boxes thus forcing the hand of the GP.

I beg to differ , it was the Tory Government who let so many sign on as incapacity benefit scroungers so they could fiddle the unemployment figures.

This is FACT. I was a Job Centre advisor doing just this in the late 80's. We were told to get claimants off the unemployed register and onto Incapacity Benefit. How weird is that?

Well it suited the Tories then didn't it?

And let's not forget the hordes on Incapacity Benefit who think it automatically entitles them to free NHS dental treatment! :tantrum::facepalm:
