Could Slade make Orient a suprise team for the play offs as he has apparently signed numerous players. He has also let one go who I think could have replaced Croft in Sean Thornton.

No chance.Slade has signed nothing but average players. It's a repeat of us from last season.Sign a load of shite players and failing to get them to gel.
I thank him though for Bennett and picking up Crofts for nothing.
Look at how poor Dean Cox has been for us these last few seasons. These are the signings Slade has made for the O's this season.
Fair play to him though as he is getting in his own players with no real money to spend.

Whilst I agree that Southampton will take some stopping (although we damn near did it twice last season) and I think that Huddersfield and Swindon will be in the hunt I fail to see just why people are mentioning P'Boro, Plymouth and Wendy. They might have 'Championship players' but that didn't stop them getting relegated did it ? Apart who we sign between now and August what we must do is have a decent start unlike the last two seasons. To get a point at Swindon would be a very good start.

I think Southampton are the only ones you can safely say will be as without the deduction they could have challenged the top last season. They're clearly not any weaker, so I think a top 6 spot is assured. I wouldn't necessarily back them to be in the top 2 though.

As for the others, actually I disagree, I don't think there is anything to suggest it's "obvious" they will be up there. Wednesday were abysmal last season, Peterborough could go either way (as relegated teams usually do) and Huddersfield are likely to be good but not unbeatable.

All I'm saying is of the 4 or 5 big names, typically only 2 will challenge and there will be at least 2 surprises up there. Which makes predictions from people who just name all the biggest names a waste of time.

Bit of a loose phrase that. I mean they'll all most likely be top half teams with play-off aspirations, none of those will be in a relegation battle in my opinion.

Southampton will surely be in the top two, any manager could take that side to the top of the division with players like Barnard, Puncheon and Lambert. Peterborough will also be strong, and i'll put money on them to win the league because Johnson is a great manager and they've made some great signings, Mccann will get 10 goals + and then the likes of Boyd, Mackail Smith and Maclean will easily get 40 or 50 between them. Huddersfield will be strong, but i think they're far more likely to end up in the play-offs than automatic.

As others said, Charlton are in the shit, Bailey and Shelvey are gone, Lloyd Sam has gone and so has last seasons top scorer (Burton). They wont be anywhere near automatic, and will probably linger in the mid to bottom half of the division.

Us and Brentford, who seem to have a bit of money, are the two i think will be battling out for 5th and 6th along with possibly Notts County and a couple of others.

1) Southampton
2) Peterborough
3) Huddersfield
4) Sheff Wednesday
5) Swindon
6) Us or Brentford.

it certainly is too soon to be making any cast iron predictions, and as has been said, often as not some of the more fancied sides do fail to deliver. Dont know how the statistics pan out but i would not be suprised a) if a promoted side from Div 2 made a strong bid, and b) a relegated side from Div 1 struggles badly, but not relegated. who do you think may be a suprise package?

As I look at the teams everyone is tipping to do so well, you can easily find faults in the lot of them. League One is always wide open, I wouldn't have expected Swindon, Milwall or Brentford to finish were they did. at least 8 clubs have a shot at promotion.

Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Peterborough, Huddersfield, Plymouth, Charlton, Swindon and us are supposedly going to be the top teams this year with outsiders like Brentford,Carlisle, Leyton Orient and Dagenham sniffing around the top half, yet no more!
Anyway...

Sheffield Wednesday: They have the 'BIG CLUB' persona much like Leeds did yet that never helped them. They could storm away with it, but they have a shoddy defense and may leak goals. However despite the untimely demise they may have, they will finish 1st.

Southampton: Everyone will throw superlatives at them, yet the board continue to create a feeling of uncertainty plus the fact there will be two months or so where they implode, Pardew get's sacked and they slip down the table when Paul Hart get's appointed. Play Offs.

Peterborough: Good team, yet lacked goals and shipped many in last year. Although they have a very good manager yet maybe it will be a transitional period as Peterborough aren't exactly Championship material really. Scrape the play offs.

Huddersfield: They have made some top notch signings especially in midfield and they also have a top defense and excellent strike force, not to mention the imminent arrival of Glenn Murray. What with a great manager and good squad, I think the will finish 2nd.

Plymouth: Again they shipped goals and failed to score, I can't see them really troubling anybody and i reckon they will finish 7th.

Charlton: They have no money and have sold their best players. I don't really rate their manager and from what I saw last year if you can control the midfield, the game is won. if they get their act together then maybe play offs, but I reckon 9th.

Swindon: Paynter has gone, Greer will be gone in the next few days and after that I can't see Austin staying. They WILL finish mid table.

Brighton and Hove Albion: With the signings of hopefully Lua Lua, Greer/another center back and 2 strikers, not a lot really!, we could be quality next year. We will be pushing for the top two however I can see a fourth placed finish, but a defeat in the play offs.

So my top half would be:
1. Sheffield Wednesday
2. Huddersfield
3. Southampton
4. Brighton And Hove Albion
5. Brentford
6. Peterborough
7.Plymouth
8. Carlisle
9. Charlton
10. Leyton Orient
11. Swindon
12. Dagenham/Redbridge

They will not lack goals this year, not a chance.
Gary Johnson is a very good manager, and they have signed Mccann who got 8 goals last season in the championship. Boyd on the other wing got 10 goals + in the championship, and destroyed this division last time he played in it. They also seem to be holding onto both Mackail smith and Maclean, who between them in this division last time around got over 40 goals. Joe Lewis is a very solid keeper, and their defense isnt that bad at all.

We WILL get a playoff spot as a minimum!

I am sure we will see some more new faces/returning faces plus at least one outstanding striker.

We have said that the last two seasons though.

I have to ask, are the comments about Murray and Greer based on guesswork or do you know something?

We just have to accept we are not going to go up this year. It will be another season of being lied to.

Have they actually signed anyone good though, or is it just quantity over quality?

we've seen nearly half teh players we've signed

Painter and Calde. Poke i've heard good things about. These two Argies have impressed Gus, and we know what he's like.

Cheer the f*** up

Sign 1 or 2 quality strikers and a central defender and maybe then we can think about pushing for promotion.

Pretty happy with our Keepers and Midfield, but our strikeforce is potentially one of the weakest in the division.
