Ask forest. you can't pick and choose. playoffs last season, struggling this season. (i'm not saying that forest did this, but it shows that you have no idea what will happen next season)

Promotion to the premier league is worth something around £90million to the club, yeaah f*** that.

The Championship.
I'd love us to go up but if it didn't happen this season then I'm not too bothered. It would give me the chance to go to the grounds I missed out on going to this season..

I think it's still unlikely that we will go up, but if we do it will be good for the club in the long term despite getting turned over most weeks

I don't think this is overly fair, we have played premiership teams this season and won.

Swansea and Norwich went up and have been very sensible with their money and I'd trust Bloom to keep his feet on the ground with regards to what we are spending on players. I'd rather go up and battle with the bottom half of the premier league than get stuck in the championship.

Promotion all the way

Would you be happy for Tony to say 'that's mine that is', and trouser ALL the extra cash, leaving the club completely debt free?

The thing is, the scenario people are cheerily describing here , 'let's visit and come down with the parachute payments' very rarely pans out like that.

Fans get furious watching the team lose every week, whatever people say now. They will demand change, new players, money spent, club gets itself in hock trying to stay up, overpays on silly contracts and gets relegated anyway. How many times has this happened?

Personally I do subscribe to the view that you can 'go up too early', whatever Norwich are doing (Swansea have been banging on the door for years). However, if we are lucky enough to go up, then any player signed has the relegation salary drop clause in there (amazingly clubs like QPR still aren't doing this with Barton), and when contracts are renegotiated with existing players that is inserted.

I think it can be done, going up, coming down and not f**king yourself up financially, but it requires a long-term view and patience from fans that has not always been on show at other clubs. Stoke are the perfect example financially (if not in a football sense). Start carefully, try and stay up any way possible, and when established gradually build from there.

Actually Swansea have not been "banging on the door for years" they were in L1 3 years ago. Definitely promotion for me please!!!

You can't compare cup games to league games end of.Its important we take our chance if it comes as it could be 10 years+ til we do who knows, yes its great in the championship but we must all be ambitious. :)

That's not the accurate comparison though, is it? It's not what they are saying NOW, enjoying the Premier League, that is relevant. It's what they might be saying 2/3 years down the line if they don't get the sums right and spend stupid money (eg Portsmouth).
.

Yes, your right, lets deliberately f*** it up just incase. After all there is a slight chance that people who've made & invested millions would'nt have a plan to secure our future. Its not as if we've been waiting the best part of 30 years to get back into the top division is it?

As much as i also think we may need another season in the Championship, but to build a squad best likely to survive in the Premier league we need to be there to attract the players.

I think we would be better off by having several seasons inproving our side in the Championship before even considering promotion.
When Brighton were promoted years ago we spent thousands on new players yet our results were poor,we played with our backs to the wall and the football was far from entertaining,I would not want to go through that experience again, happy to have this standard of football which we should be able to maintain.

What happened to us after we got to the playoff final in 91.look at the season forest are having.what I would say is that no matter what happens to us this season it should be viewed as a successful season.
In 20 years time I think this season will still be remembered whatever happens between now & then.

The idea is to get promoted, offer bonuses and incentives to the players we have, bring in some good promising talent and see how it goes. If you go down you have a squad that is better than the promoted side plus the experience. If by a miracle we stay up, invest more and try for fourth from bottom and so on.
Lets say you came down with £90m. Tony pockets £45m, no problem with that, and the other £45m is invested in young talent around the 3 to 5million mark. That gets you about 5, 5m players plus pays for their contracts and signing fees. Those five players, with the team that got you up in the first place could well be good enough to stay up.
Discipline. Understand its a business, keep to your medium/long term plan and you can make money and have success on the pitch.

Yes, yes I would, he deserves it. And more.
Me to.
Just so long as it's the first thing he says, and doesn't leave us with the merest moment of thinking we'd sign Messi.

(Although he'd only ever make the bench)

How easy.

The way to do it is being shown in the premier league this season.

SWANSEA

They probably spent less than us in the close season. They have prooved what can be achieved if you are well organised & can play football.Lets not forget that they only went up via the playoffs.

True, but once they have been sussed out lets see how long they last. Longevity is the key, and you get that by developing.

I find the OP ridiculous... listen to your Chairman; Tony said you have to take your chance if and when you have it... it's not like you can choose when to go up...

Is it wrong to be happy in this league?

I really want a few more seasons at this level to make a side thats fit to play in the prem.

We must be making money to add a few players next season.

I just think if we get to the promised land it would be great if we could stay there, not 'just visiting'.

What do you think?

This is without doubt the most crazy thought process ive ever heard of. 20 years of championship football wont make you any more ready than you are now. People who want to stay in this division are without doubt the nuttiest thinking football fans around.

Even going up and then straight back down again gives us loads of money and far more opportunity to build a better squad than years just in the Championship would ever do.

NO team is ever truly "ready" for the Premier League until they get there so they can attract the quality of players that the league requires. You can only attract so many "quality" players whilst in the Championship which is never enough.

The summer transfer window and "surviving' in the league until the January transfer window is plenty time to further build the squad.
