I see rain has delayed the start of play. That extra hour's batting after lunch not looking too clever now.

Plenty of time still Pav.......

I hope you're right. I just find it strange that the first session yesterday was played at a pretty normal pace - 100-odd runs amassed - and that Anderson had half an hour of strike for less than 20 runs.

And all that with weather reports of possible rain on the final day...

Covers are off now so maybe play underway by 3pm? One hour delay that could be made up at the end of the day if needed. Just hope there aren't many more delays. Wicket needed in fiorst 30 mins I reckon to get us on our way.

The most curious thing..
Flintoff needs to score some runs to keep justifying his place as an all-rounder. Given his recent form its only his bowling efforts keeping him in the side
Cricinfo Statsguru - A Flintoff - Test matches - Batting analysis
He hasn't scored a Test 100 since August 2005 which given he is supposed to be a significant batsman isn't good. England seem to need his bowling more.
However other than Flintoff we seem terribly short of real Test class all rounders. I can't see any Test batsman quaking in their boots at the thought of facing Bopara's immense pace and aggression.

We should need hundreds from Flintoff to win test matches now that we've got Prior behind him averaging 40. Freddie still averages a score of 50 plus every 4 innings so that's still pretty good.

Our problem is finding a consistent quality spinner and keeping 4 seamers fit and firing.

The thing is Prior should be coming in at 6. Also in a year or, you could play Flintoff at 8, if Rashid breaks into the side.
