Strauss not enforcing the follow-on. The bowlers look knackered which is why he's done it, but it could be risky. I bet we don't score quick enough and then bat far too long.
Why couldn't we bowl Broad, Anderson and Swann for the remaining overs? I cvan't see us batting on much past lunch, so will it REALLY give Harmison and Flintoff that much more time to heal?
Baffling decision, especially as Swann was in the groove.
I wouldn't feel confident about winning this test with anything less than a 450 lead and 1 and a half days to do it in. Our approach should be to bat for around 25 overs and get another 140-odd runs - the wickets don't matter. Then give then a couple of overs before lunch. There's a case for putting Pietersen in after Anderson's out, ahead of Shah.
Don't know why Strauss has been so criticised for not enforcing the follow on. He had two bowlers struggling. The pitch is only going to get worse so why not make WI bat in the worst of conditions. Bating last is always difficult psychologically so lay off the bloke!!
You can guarantee that before lunch Ian Botham will be moaning that they have enough runs etc. Right, and you made a good captain did you Beefy??
I think with two bowlers suffering and the heat, it was a sensible thing to do. We've got a lead of just over 300 at the moment, if we push on we should have a lead of 450 soon after lunch
I applaude (sp?) Strauss for batting again, two players throwing up and the rest probably tired from the heat aswell. Looking at the pitch I dont think its that much of a problem, bang a quick 100 or so runs out today and put them back in...job done!
I feel less than comfortable with the thought of only 4 sessions to get this lot out. Two knackered bowlers, a toothless Anderson and a rookie spinner should be given the extra session.
Early reports say the pitch is breaking up so you can expect the spinners to bowl 35-40% of the overs, so no great demands to be placed on Flintoff or Harmison anyway.
There's a long time left in this match, a full two days almost. The West Indies have a knack of capitualting when they are unable to win a game. 4 sessions on this pitch will be plenty to knock them over.
What is the game plan with Anderson? I'm not surprised Gayle dropped him, they are trying to save the game and couldn't wish for slower scorers than these two.
If Australia were in this position they'd get their nightwatchman to crash off a quick 20-odd runs and not hang around, then get the Pontings and Clarkes in to do the damage.
