If he's not for sale then move on to the next target. There must be an alternative.
There are plenty of alternatives and 3 months to go so no rush, we can afford to spend a minute or two longer on the top targets just now.

In football every player has a price. This explains why they are entertaining letting Chelsea pin-up boy Mason Mount join Man Utd. And I don't think Brighton do "numbers", I think they price players very carefully, according to the other club, the market rate and - when selling - the feelings of the player, the service they have given and the profit on the deal.

I agree that Chelsea may be serious about not selling Colwill but that is a dangerous game if a) They need money to meet FFP and b) The player really does want to leave.

Indeed, the bonkers transfer fees Chelsea pay make buying off them a bit of a lottery. It's not surprising they turn down £30 mill for Colwill when they paid £75mill for Wesley Fofana.
Every deal has a price, yes. Our transfer dealings in recent years have though made it clear that matching the number is all that matters and the club doesn’t engage in debates about how that number is arrived at. I definitely think we stop at ‘not for sale.’

Chelsea expecting people to pay ridiculous prices just because they did could well become my favourite sport in the transfer window. Someone with one year left on contract valued at 80million. Hahahahaha. They are saying that he is worth 2 million quid a match plus of course the wages. If they won’t come down to sensible prices then the players see out contracts and leave for nothing. It is all on the table in negotiations.

Agree . I'd like him to join but no way should we pay inflated prices just because Chelsea have wasted so much on duff like Mudryk, Madueke, Gusto, wasted £10m on the loan for Felix.

If no one pays their inflated valuations then they get stuck with a massive unbalanced squad and follow this season's disaster. People should not pay Chelsea's prices and if no one bought their players, eventually they'd have to relent and ask for more reasonable prices.

There has to be alternatives who are better value which the club will be considering.

This comment could have been lifted right off an Arsenal forum about us on a Caicedo thread only without the wasting money piece.

What we deem an inflated price is pretty irrelevant. If Chelsea think he's worth more than £30m, then he's worth more than £30m. Personally, I think we're looking at Ben White money here.

Sadly, Chelsea will probably just be bloody-minded. Todd's pride is hurt.

The only one to suffer in all this is likely to be Levi.

Swap Colwill plus cash, sign Ugarte with cash..perfect.
Issue is PSG are also in for Ugarte and there’s a worry he’ll go there for the money.

I’m wondering if Caicedo is their back-up option should that deal fall through.

Yeah it's one or the other. You won't sign both.
Our best chance with Colwill is that their only option is to sign Caicedo (they don't have much imagination do they?).

Colwill has played around 15 premier league games. White had played a full season and been POTS at Leeds.

Levi is likely to still have a value in 3/4 years time but anything over £40m would seem a lot

I disagree, Packing some good signings in quick may help sway Alexis etc not to leave.
I don't think any of our players think we are not ambitious enough or doubt that we will get in some excellent players over the summer. If Alexis leaves this summer it will be because he is joining a club with a much larger budget which gives him a huge pay rise and (possibly more importantly to him) increases the quality of players they can attract thus improving the chances of winning trophies.

Alexis and Moises are leaving. In Alexis’ case the deal is all but done. We don’t stand in players’ way as long as everything is done on our terms. Been explained multiple times. We are not trying to compete in the transfer arms race. We seek to benefit from it. If players aren’t sold then Tony would have to cover the difference and there is no reason why he should.
