well that wasn't bad viewing! India 24-7 effectively. Think I may stick my neck and say that England are favourites!
Has a Sussex bowler ever taken 10 wickets in a test match?
I think you will find that the lead is 31.
Arthur Gilligan
MW Tate
John Snow
Imran Khan
... plus I daresay a few others.
Were they all Sussex players at the time of their feats?
Presumably Arthur was. Too young to know whether Snow did that whilst playing for us or Warks. No idea who Tate is.
Badly worded - I meant for England. So that rules Khan out of contention.
John Snow played for Sussex from 1961-77 - his England career was 1965-76.
You've never heard of Maurice Tate? Tush, tush - he's Sussex's all-time leading wicket taker (2,211), 155 wickets for Englad. On his Test debut in 1924, he and Arthur Gilligan dismissed South Africa for 30 - Tate took 4/12, Gilligan 6/7.
You can add Tony Greig to that list, BTW.
Oh yeah. Rings a bell now. Why did Gilligan get a stand and not Tate?
Don't know. Possibly because he went on the higher echelons of cricket.
He was also placed under surveillance by MI5 in the 1930s because of membership of the political party 'The British Fascists'.
Seriously considering setting the alarm for start of play tomorrow. Not sure what time it starts, is it 4.30 am our time?
4 I think.
