Given the chances are that it will be Pakistan in the semi's rather than England, I'm thinking the Indian players may not be overly-motivated to beat us :)

Really? India thrashed Pakistan in the group game, I'd have thought they'd much rather play Pakistan than England in the semi

Disagree - when has an England cricket team ever had this much support from everyone?

Players just getting the excuses in when they need to look at themselves.

Doesn’t bode well

It's a joke, they've only been too happy to take all of the plaudits for the way they've played in the last 4 years, now they're getting some (deserved) criticism for how shambolically this world cup has gone and they have spat their dummies out. Shocking attitude.

Bairstow saying "we are playing exciting cricket" at this point in time is a bit concerning. We're ranked 1st in the World, yet have just lost our last 2 games and are in big danger of not making the semis, which - given the WC is at home - can only be seen as a dismal failure.

He's moaning about bad luck - not sure what luck has to do with some ****ing abysmal shot selection from half our players in the Sri Lanka and Australia games, particularly at points where we really needed good game management, to be pragmatic and just spend some time at the crease.

Don't think our mindset is right at all, if that is the general feeling of the dressing room. The players need to step up, take the criticism on the chin, and move on.

Oh dear, surely in this position you know you have lost but you try and bat the overs out to help your net run rate? 112-7 after 28

EDIT: 112-8!

Late to the party replying to this, but at that point the NRR was meaningless for the Windies. It was a must-win game for them, having lost it they are out.

That 14-1 on SL doesn't look a bad bet. England have to win at least one of their last two games but they could beat NZ and still not qualify. India play SL in their last game and may not try too hard to win that

It does now ... they're struggling today against SAf.

South Africa couldn't beat an egg at the moment.

Usual caveat of needing to see both sides bat, but they're doing a good job bowling first today.

The SA bowling has generally been OK, it's the batting that's been shocking. No Saffer has reached 70 in this WC

They're all at it! They're delusional. They're mentally pretending to be positive. They need to face up to the reality of match situations. There has only been one 300+ score in the last 15 innings in this world cup. The pitches are making 230 / 40 / 50 / 60 defendable and winnable. England still batting like you have to get 350, even when they've only need 230 and 280 odd.

They've had nothing but support by been woeful against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia, they did well to get away with one against South Africa.

How is it bad luck to be caught about 8 times near the boundary in the last 2 innings chasing modest totals? 5 an over was enough, and we're trying to hit 6s when we're 4, 5, 6 wickets down.

They're absolutely in a state of complete denial.

Good point well made, didn't realise the Windies were in such a shit position!

Anyway the Saffers doing England a favour as we speak.

That they are, but I never thought Sri Lanka were a real threat. I'd be more concerned about Pakistan if I was an England fan. Next biggest worry is Bangladesh, and then Sri Lanka (before today, and I'd still put them third in this list even if they do steal a win).

Not sure I'd back that if it was just the odds to win our next game. We look MASSIVELY out of sorts at the moment. I'm not saying we can't win it, but it's gonna take a huuuge turnaround.

We're 5/2 to beat both India and NZ.

If Sri Lanka lose this, they cease to be a real threat. They'd be 2 points behind us with 2 games to play, regardless of them we HAVE to win at least one, and they wouldn't catch up on NRR even if they won both their remaining games.

Sri Lanka are effectively OUT if they lose this game.
