I'd imagine any future England manager will change to 4-2-3-1.
How many teams anywhere still play 4-4-2?
Its an old & far too rigid tactic for modern day football

There seems to be a bit of an issue with the 19-25 age group of players, but there also seem to be a good crop of under 19 players on the way through.

Players like Rooney, Ashley Cole, Joe Cole and Hargreaves should still be around in 4 years time, however it would not be a bad thing if Terry, Lampard and a few others hung their international boots up now.

I think the 4-4-2 is so deeply ingrained on players psyche from under 8's right through to English coaches at top clubs that the players now will just struggle tactically as opposed to our continental cousins. Technically and tactically we are just miles inferior.

At the risk of stating The Bleeding Obvious under 8s should not be playing 11 aside.

At least we can dispense with that eternal question "Can Lampard and Gerrard play together?"

Exactly that.

It's so disappointing that they have always failed to perform at International level when it matters most. They seem to produce the good for their respective clubs.

New blood is needed in that midfield. I just hope the next generation are up to it.
