As it happens I have a G4 Powerbook, but last night whilst I was working in mac typing a letter could I find out how to insert a new page.
And this to me has always been a problem, what I am learning at work which is always using a PC , is not transferred to the home environment!!!!
Therefore my desire to move to a PC!
Time for me is also an issue and fear of being ripped off. Which is why I may now use Dell.
I now see the advantages of a low price PC, plus:
media card,
optical key board (ergonomic) and mouse
19 ultra sharp monitor (are the Dell's any good?)
Whack up the RAM to 2056
and a good colored printer for photo quality pics (HP/ Epson/ Canon)
I will be out on site over the next sixth months working in the Olympics area, interviewing dischanted businesses being relocated..... so a palm or something better to take notes, update my diary etc is what I need
Do not get a G4 I repeat do not get a G4. Even with a processor running at 500mhz and 640mb of ram you will struggle having more than 2 applications running at once in OSX.
Take it from me I owned a Mac for three weeks and then sold it and went back to dual boot machine with linux and windows.
What are you getting with a mac that you dont get with Windows?
Ok it might be virus free and the case and desktop may look nice but thats about it. Forget about upgarding anything on a Mac it costs three times as much.
There is absolutely no difference between Windows & Mac for design purposes, all thats different is the mac is a little bit sharper and remember if its web work everyone will be viewing it on a windows machine.
Secondly if your taking your artwork to the printers, its the printing machine that makes the difference and not the Mac.
Yeah Macs are bullshit. People just get fazed by the case and the preety desktop thats all.
I got 1gb of ram in this pc and 64mb graphics card, even with this I can apply a filter in photoshop quite fast using 1600x1200 res @300dpi imagine trying to do this in OSX, the machine would just spit it out.
If you want power out of a Mac, you need one with an IBM in it, the Freescale chips are just jokes. Especially the 7447a/b that the current machines have - Apple won't move to the 7448 in case the 1MB cache puts people off buying a G5.
