A very Bad day at the office but I don’t think it means the seasons over as we’re only 3 points behind Villa in 8th.

The reason We lost so heavily in this game in my opinion is because our midfield was almost non existent & we had almost no control in that area. We also didn’t play with enough consistent pressing.

It was far to easy for Forrest to play the ball out wide to their wingers & then cut in.

The 2nd half change of formation looked a much better balance & we were the better side until we conceded the 4th.

We do have a number of injuries but with the quality & size of the squad we should be doing better in my view. We’re not as good as we think we are but we’re not as bad as some peoples reactions have been.

We’re 10th could slip to 11th but I think somewhere between 6th & 8th should be doable with this squad. Will it happen under this manager I’m not sure.

You misunderstood the purpose of the thread with that last paragraph. I’m not blaming our signings. I’m saying we spent all that money and we’re much, much worse.

But, yeah, imagine being in that team talk. “You four forwards, don’t dare lose it or they’ll drive into the thirty yards of space where our midfield should be. Defence, if this happens watch for their midfield coming through and their wide players overlapping and Wood charging through the middle. And Jack, run around a lot eh? Good luck….”
Are we much worse ?! Where were we this time last season? Probably exactly the same position !

Hasn’t a lack of control in games/halves been the recurring Albion subject, including by football writers/Radio Sussex, for the entire season? Even when few injuries.

This time last year we were in the last 16 of a major European competition and we hadn’t lost 7-0 to anyone.

Sorry, how could I have misunderstood the purpose of this thread?

You started it today.

I asked how many of those 200m worth of players were on the pitch today?
Can’t you count then? It’s freely available on the lineups.

Maybe more would have played today if we hadn’t signed a midfielder who has had the same injury he had since doing his medical. But we still had plenty of new this season players on the pitch at some time. And I’m struggling to see your point.

We largely played rubbish teams in Europe though. Big names but Ultimately rubbish. Rome weren't even that good and we got stuffed by them.

Yes we got stuffed today but this was against the 3rd placed team. We got destroyed by bloody Luton last season. Not sure we are worse, we have a much better squad though so we are underachieving more.

Yes Dwayne, Ajax, Marseille and Roma are definitely rubbish.

Ajax were absolutely woeful last season. And Marseille finished 8th in the French league. Both teams would have finished below mid table in the EPL.
That’s not rubbish though, is it? Crawley Town are rubbish. Grimsby are rubbish.

Well I make it two starting (arguably our best two players on the pitch today), and two coming on as subs.

I'm still struggling to see your point for starting the thread.

You make it sound like we had a team out today, loaded with new signings from the 200m pot, and that 'we're f**king shit'.

I'm not sure what the 200m of new players has to do with today. Given that you only started the thread today, right towards the end of the game.

I'm getting a bit tired of posters claiming that injuries were responsible for a 7-0 thrashing.

It wasn't injuries.
It was Huerzeler's decison to play 4-1-4-1 against the 3rd placed team, that are probably the best counter-attacking team in the league.

Sure losing Ayari and Baleba was a massive blow, but the answer wasn't going all out attack..

The truth is that I have been waiting for Huerzeler to show what he's got.
The Palace performance was a worry, the Everton performance worsened that, but this has really damaged his credibility.
It wasn’t the reason, but a contributing factor, just like a bit of weariness wasn’t the reason but a contributing factor to losing 0-4 at Luton. We beat Palace 4-1 four days later so suddenly we weren’t tired anymore.

I’m fully with you on the criticism on the selection decisions he had to make today, but the injuries aren’t making it easy.

Finally we're gonna lose that really annoying 'best run club' tag ;)

He is right, they were rubbish. AEK, Ajax and Marseille were crap last season - big names but really poor teams. We should have won that group. Roma were slightly better than those three but not a lot and we got humped by them.

Anyway, that’s last season. Back to today’s disaster….

Injuries he might be contributing to with his training and that might not be injuries.

£200m was spent on trust the process ones for the future, all will come good in the sunny uplands, one day.

Whilst at the fourth window of fans enquiring, we’ve not seriously dealt with gaping DM, FB and CB weaknesses. The £200m shows the money was there, so the stock 2023/24 defence on nsc of of “Ah, you’re demanding that TB injects more money” can’t be churned out.

Heavy defeats by Villa, Luton, CP, Chelsea and Forest highlight, over a sample size of two contrasting coaches, an unbalanced squad.
