Carlisle dismiss manager McDonald

Carlisle United have sacked manager Neil McDonald after just one match of the new League One season.
The shock move was revealed in a statement on the club's website.

"The board of Carlisle United regret to say that they have lost confidence in Neil McDonald and are terminating his contract forthwith," it read.

"They thank him for his hard work at the club and wish him all the best for his future career. Gregg Abbott has been appointed as caretaker manager."

The dismissal comes just two days after the Cumbrians began the new season with a 1-1 draw at Carlisle - having broken their transfer record to sign Blackburn striker Joe Garner for £140,000 on Friday.

Deserved the sack if they could only draw with themselves! Great reporting.

It always make me laugh when a club 'thank <insert name here> for all their hard work' and 'wish them all the best for the future'.

If they were so pleased with their hard work, why were they sacked?

'The board of Carlisle United would like to place on record that they think Mr McDonald is a work-shy tosspot who has completely lost the dressing room and has dragged this club down after the hard work of the previous manager. We hope he never works again"

Much better

How ridiculous. I always think that if a club feels the manager is right at the start of the season, they can't possibly see anything to change their minds for at least 6 games, more like 10.

...particularly when that manager has taken you to just outside the play-offs in the previous season.

Club have just released this statement

"In addition, we can confirm that the termination of the contract is not a knee jerk reaction, and is not a part of any disciplinary action"

Somehow I don't believe them
