Are Premier League clubs still going to cry poor when asked to help out teams further down the pyramid?

Maybe charge a tenner and throw it into a pot to help out clubs that are really in trouble.

Football family, my ****ing arse.

Wankers.

19 clubs voted for it, only Leicester voted against.

I think that's a smart PR move by Leicester. If they sense that the mood of the clubs was overwhelmingly in favour, then they would lose nothing by voting against it. If a Leicester game isn't included in PPV or they charge a fiver, then good on them ... but if you can a Leicester game too, then it was just all for show.

Still, at least my question has been answered about Sky - there's absolute no chance of my paying for Sky sub and PPV

You are right. However many, like myself, are very happy to support the club's cashflow and leave season ticket money invested until such time as it can be used to attend matches.

In an ideal world the fans would have made the choice, but our net outlay on players, after the Knockaert money, is about nil. Maybe an indication that the club really needed the money.

I’m fine with the club having my cash for now.

But I empathise with those p’d off about it. Some I expect may have reduced income and could do with a bit extra cash.

Thing is I don't remember being asked if I wanted my money refunded from the games I couldn't attend last season or if I wanted to stop paying this year when it became clear I couldn't attend any this season (at least not in the early part of the season). I suggest had I stopped paying I probably would have lost my session ticket.

I don't mind doing my bit to help the club but please don't tell me it was optional. To make me or any other STH pay extra for home games (oddly I haven't got a problem with away matches as I never had a ticket for them) is beginning to take advantage of the situation.

This totally. And I haven't even had a drink tonight either.
I know a few that have started watching Whitehawk etc instead of going to the AMEX. If I was still in Sussex I can see myself doing this also. I more understand now that it is not the c standard of football that drives me. I watch Western United, I watch my local state team, my boys youth team and my old farts team (when not playing) and enjoy the games immensely.

I love the Albion and am still addicted but shit like this slowly but surely chips away at our relationship. Sky nor the premier league give a shit about this and why would they, we all keep in keeping on.

The idea of the 'football family' is dead. RIP

19 clubs voted for it, only Leicester voted against. I’m ashamed of my club voting for it. Most of our fans stuck by the club when we didn’t have two ha’pennies to rub together, and now they continue to buy players, whilst sitting on our season ticket money, and asking us to pay again!
Don’t take the fans for granted Mr Barber.

The Board’s argument I’d expect is that these numerically are additional matches (when away obviously), that we wouldn’t otherwise have watched. Entirely voluntary whether to PPV or not.

But:
1. Many fans quietly aren’t swimming in cash. They already pay for season tickets that in real terms are many fold the price a generation ago. Albeit in a lovely stadium and then there’s the subjective argument that the ‘PL product‘ is better than football past.
2. Even if it’s just for a year or two, they’re holding sth’s money, now chasing PPV too. When airlines and tour operators unilaterally decide that the monetary consideration of a CV19 curtailed flight or holiday is deferred as a credit, understandably there’s outrage including on NSC.
3. The EPL is not on the rocks. Clubs are making significant losses, but the vast majority somehow managed to hand out incredible contracts in the last 7 months to new and existing players. The mooted player wages reduction never materialised, no side would budge an inch.

Realistically, at 72, I don’t even know if I’m going to be here in a year or two.

Still in Brighton
If the Albion can afford to pay £10m+ for two Polish players that are lent straight back to their Polish clubs then the club is not in any financial difficulty. I've paid for my season ticket thanks. I'll continue to watch streamed games thanks. Getting a bit sick of the Albion's loss of soul now.

#together, pah.

Hopefully many years ahead!

Overall, I think the 19 clubs have been spreadsheet focused here, forgetting about other values.

I hope so too, but I have heard of families telling the club a season ticket holder has died, but the full year still has to be paid up. The club say you enter into a credit contract from 1st April to 31st March. Death makes no difference.

From the Sky/BT point of view, I don’t really see the problem. Their customers will continue to get all the games they’ve paid for and the option to buy more if they wish.

It’s the clubs that are the really out of touch ones here. I’ve currently paid BHAFC in the region of £500 for a season ticket they have absolutely no possibility of honouring and there is not even a hint of a refund. I’ve said it before, but if it was any business but your football club you wouldn’t stand for it. What if Tesco took £70 for my weekly shop but didn’t give me any food or the local cinema took £10 for a ticket then cancelled the film? You’d go mad. You certainly wouldn’t accept a money off voucher that can be used a year later. So for these clubs to then ask fans to effectively pay again to see a match they’ve already bought a ticket for is beyond words.

What absolute cock and bull. The club have made it abundantly clear that the season ticket money is there should we be allowed back in the grounds and if we aren't for this season we aren't going to lose it.

Pretty certain that we were given the option of a refund or having the money offset against this seasons renewal (the latter being the option I chose). The club have been open in that you will not lose out with regard to your season ticket unless you choose not to attend matches when the gates are opened again, subject to whatever rules are in place. That's no different to a normal season when, for one reason or another, you might not go to one or two home games despite having a season ticket. (I assume by 'games I couldn't attend last season' you are referring to the matches post lockdown that were played behind closed doors rather than matches prior to that).

For 2020/21 CV19 no crowds matches, have direct debit STH’s been given the option of a refund?

I haven’t.

Or is it automatic, money hits out bank accounts?

Not sure anyone is in disagreement with that, but....

1) To watch games now many have signed up to expensive services such as Sky and BT
2) The "all games" arrangment is being blown away with many games being moved to a PPV arrangement.
3) Season ticket is still being taken albeit as credit for future games.
4) In terms of wages, agents fees and salaries the game has carried on regardless.

The majority who wanted to watch football live and support their clubs, the agreement to pay effectively for future games and subscrbe to a sports channel was seen as reasonable.

But pushing the "extra games" onto PPV whilst the clubs have seemingly done nothing collectively to delay wages and transfer fees is taking the piss.

Also not sure how turning games into "events" (in broadcast language) helps with social distancing. It will simply encourage those who can't afford it to gather together from multiple homes to watch it.

That seems a bit odd when you can in fact just cancel subject to a £50 fee (might need to check the t & cs). That said, I would still like the club to just cancel a season ticket if the holder has passed away

I don’t want to go into details but I totally disagree with this.

I really don't understand the sentiments here. Those extra games are not part of the package we paid for with Sky/BT. There was an agreement reached between EPL and the broadcasters for last season remaining games to all be shown but wasn't that part of the deal to reduce the refund that clubs had to pay to the broadcasters and surely no one thought that would continue ad infinitum? As for the wages/fees, it's a market place and you pay the market rate. There are no salary caps in the top leagues so if we want Brighton to maintain their EPL status then that's what they have to pay. Not sure you can argue that BHA have really splashed the cash this window!!!

It would be great if every game was free to watch but that isn't going to happen.

No option to refund your money for 20/21 and sit the season out was available unless you were deemed vulnerable and unable to attend games. If you put your 19/20 refund towards it or not doesn't make any difference to this.

But they aren't free by any stretch of the imagination and the pay TV platforms have increased their subscriber base.

You also really need to look at the situation of other fans, we are quite lucky to be able to pay monthly. They've paid up for the entire season, have subscribed to Sky/BT/NowTV and have now been told they will have to pay £15 quid a pop for their next three games.
