In the 'family' stand last night I took along my son & a couple of his mates, all aged just under 10 years old, to watch the footie.

Behind us was a group of about five 13 to 14 year olds, with an adult.

All through the first half, one of the boys behind us kept swearing at the top of his voice, whether about the ref, lino,Charlton fans, Smith or whatever. Total randomness, 3 to 4 abusive words a minute. Wan**r, cu*t, bolloxs, slag, etc.

There was one reason and one reason only I didn't tell him to shut it, simply because his dad would have probably given some back ( seeing as he's let his boy swear for 45 mins in a public place), and I can assure you, so would I.

And I wouldn't want any kids ( this is the family stand ) to see any of that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no angel, and my behaviour and language can be colourfull at the best of times, but not in the 'family' stand.

Sure we all know that the kids hear this language in the playground, so my boy wouldn't have learnt anything new.

But if he utters any of those words in front of me before he's 18, let alone shouting them in a public place, he knows he will be in massive trouble with me and his mum (probably buy him a season ticket to teach him a lesson).

What a scum father and kid.

Agree. Not on at all. It's not about class either...well not social class anyway!!! Some people are just scum and that little troupe seem to fit the category nicely!

It seems to me that 13-15 year olds have prob found their first chance to swear in public and get away with it, maybe the max age for kids in the family stand needs lowering so the younger kids don't hear so much swearing. I would not be at all amused if my lad was exposed to that.

Grow a pair, turn around and tell them to shut their mouths. Jeeesus, a nation of wimps. Your kids must have thought you were spineless.

I would have done mate, but as I said, I didn't want a confrontation, because if the dad had stepped in, so would I, believe me.

I didn't want other peoples kids ( there are a lot in the family stand btw ) getting scared because of two adults possibly trying to kick the shit out of each other.

My original point was not against the club or stewards, just reflecting on the sad state of today's standards.

Remember, I wasn't in H block, but the family, where there are kids as young as 4.

Standards have changed, but they aren't the same everywhere...at the ground that I now watch the majority of my football the announcer reads out a statement along with the teamsheets before kick-off...it goes something like "all supporters are requested to refrain from foul, racist and abusive language, it reflects badly on you and the club that you profess to support"

I am not saying that that stops the odd song from the terraces with a swear word in it...but I have never...I repeat never...heard any swearing in the main stand from where I watch the game. I have encouraged friends to bring kids along to the game with the reassurance that they won't hear any foul language from those sat around them, it is sad that your experience doesn't match the standards set by some.
