Swearing is part of football, but there is a family stand for a reason. Ask the parent politely and if he doesn't do something about it, then ask a steward to take a view and let him decide if it is suitable for the family stand.

And yes, I guess kids hear swearing in the playground all the time but the C word is still a no-no even at football isn't it? I think an adult shouting that would have his collar felt at some point anywhere in the ground.

In a couple of paragraphs you have summed up alot of what is wrong with society today. Swearing has become the norm rather then the exception, and to basically say you associate swearing with passion is worrying. The family stand is a place kids are supposed to be able to go to avoid that sort of thing and to be able to support the Albion without using swear words.

Swearing generally is usually a good indication of ignorance.

I agree with every word of that.

having No Swearing areas in football grounds is like having No Pissing areas in swimming pools.

I appreciate what you say though, not having a pop. It is different if it is right behind you all game. Just say to the 13 year old lads, what the f*** are you doing in a kids area anyway. Bit embarrassing at that age.

I'm obviously wrong on all accounts then.

I'll e mail the club saying that all Junior Seagulls and Gully's gang members on their birthday get a list of A to Z swear words along with their pencil set.

I think most people are agreeing with you aren't they? Most are simply saying that you should have done something about it-telling a steward rather than a direct confrontation with what would appear to be an idiot of a father/guardian.

It's not a no swearing area though is it - it's a Family Stand. Should be kind of self-regulating you'd hope. Bit different if the rest of the ground was sold out but it's not.

Spot on though about embarrassing for 13-14 years olds being in the family stand. "You're clearly the big man in front of your mates with your potty mouth chum - what are you doing in the kiddies stand with your Mummy and Daddy?"

What a c0ck. It's a family stand for a reason. There must have been 3000 unoccupied seats around the ground where people who wanted to swear and behave like p1ssed adults could do so quite freely, so sit there.

Oh, you have upset me using the word cock! I won't come on here again I will go bowling instead. Nasty man...

Oh, so I'm in the wrong then?

I tell you what, I'll take all the kids bowling in future then, not to support the Albion.

If you condone 14 tear old shouting **** at the top of his voice for 45 minutes, then maybe you were his dad.

What's wrong with you?

You got it totally around the wrong way mate.I AGREE WITH YOU.I never swear in front of my kids.Bowling was just a little joke. The family stand is for kids. thats why swearing is out of order.

Trying to think of a swear word beginning with Z, Peanut

Zundercunt?

I am a bit of a swearer but swearing loses it's impact if used constantly.
I would have told a steward in that situation but well done for not losing it in front of your child.

I associate swearing as a sign of passion/excitement which is lacking at the Withdean so please don't do anything to make it anymore drab than it is already.

NOT in the Family Stand.

A quiet word with the Steward would've sorted it; I wouldn't have confronted the parent because I think you'd definitely get some grief back from him. That's what the Stewards are there for, and however unpopular they are they're well versed in dealing with situations like this one

I thought he had ! But I agree with everyone apart from Brighton1. What's the point in having a family stand when you get that sort of behaviour. Mind you, don't blame the kid blame his irresponsible parent. No doubt he won't be happy until his little darling has his very own ASBO.

Im the first to admit I have shown a bit of passion whilst in the stands - swearing included! I think most of us have?

BUT

To allow your own kid to swear in the Family Stand of all stands is quite simply disgraceful and the father should be ashamed of himself. He should have immediately put a stop to it.

If I was to behave like that when I was younger I would have had a stern talking to and most probably back then a bloody good hiding! And I wouldnt have behaved like it again!

Have you reported this to the club? Do they not have a swearing scheme like they do with racism, especially as it's in the family stand?

Report someone for swearing??

What are you some sort of ****?

It's a game of football not the f***ing ballet!

Jeeeeeze what has happened to the beautiful game?

I can't talk, I tend to start my foul mouth rants from just after the first 90 seconds of any given match. Would I do that in the family stand, absolutely not.

common sense and decency have gone out of the window, I like to swear, one of my favourites is 'don't be a cu nt!' however when I was brought up it was never swear
a)in front of women
b)in front of children
c)in the family stand!

yes, we swore (and heard it) in the playground but we were all aware a risk was involved because if you were heard by a teacher/dinner lady you were in trouble.

I remember queing up for the North Stand in the late 70's, all the u16's were queing to pay 50p and some lads in front were swearing, the old bill heard and frogmarched said lads into the £1 queue with the simple comment "If you're old enough to swear, you're old enough to pay full price!"
