I don't think it's unlikely that son tells Dad he's going to <insert away game here> with his girlfriend and Dad doesn't think much more about it than that.

From a quick snoop, I can see that Dad runs a very well-regarded local business (and from a further search, produces a product you have posted about enjoying on here), that I'm sure keeps him very busy indeed. As such, I could well believe that the specifics of ticket eligibility and procurement may not have been something considered.
Something I enjoy...intersting.

10 game ban completely over the top. Understand if they had touted ticket but its gone to somebody they know. Hardly a huge offence . I think everybody near where I sit would have life bans for how many times they have and still do pass tickets on when cant attend

You go to Arsenal, Everton, Southampton, Liverpool, Man City etc...

The teacup this storm has brewed in seems to be related to two fairly local games with small allocations - which would never have got to All STH or Albion+ anyway.
I wouldn't normally expect Arsenal or Southampton to go to Albion+ either.
Although in Southampton's case, I don't see that as a great disappointment.

In that thread it mentions you get harshly treated if you don’t collect your ticket surely that’s not the case. What if you are ill or can’t make it last minute. The clubs going to punish you for that surely not! It’s like bloody school.

The ridiculous thing is that his ticket was checked at Wolves which went to general sale. I get why we are doing this - especially at London games - but that fixture was subject to train strikes so it would be little surprise if arrangements changed. The net result is going to be empty seats.
If we all "get why we are doing this" the thread would be about 2 pages long.

As a non-BHAFC fan, what is the rationale for this rule and subsequent punishment? I understand the need to prevent ticket touting, the risk of which presumably increases when you’re playing the Man Yoo’s of this world, but this seems a pretty harmless contravention, which the club should be able to comprehend on investigation.

From the outside looking in, I admire so much about the way your club has been run over the course of the last decade or so, but this just seems bonkers and pretty upsetting for the bloke in question.

As is written on every page of this thread.

The Draconian rule change was bought in because last season every Brighton fan found guilty of offensive behaviour at away grounds were there on tickets they weren't entitled too.

As that was showing no sign of sorting itself out on an individual basis the club pulled out it's sledgehammer.

The people here knew that.
They falsified their ticket.
They knew the consequences of their actions.
Those consequences have now been followed through.

I'm not too sure what there is to be upset about.

I think that if anybody (except Poojah to be fair, who may reasonably have not been paying too much attention) hasn't grasped that by now, they're willfully choosing not to.

Two things which overlap a bit...

1. Fans who are in a high tier for away game ticket sales who buy away tickets and let someone else use them. Fan A (who is high priority) is happy as he earns more loyalty points, enabling him to retain a position at the front of the queue. Fan B (who uses the ticket) is happy as he gets to attend a game he'd otherwise not be able to attend.

However Fan C is unhappy as he was eagerly awaiting his chance to buy a ticket for the game, but it sold out before it was his turn.

2. A sharp increase in anti-social behaviour at away games, with the club reporting that most of those ejected/arrested at these games were found to be using tickets in someone else's name.

Hardly surprising and the admission of changing the name on the ticket confirms they were well aware of what they were doing, the kids at least. Punishments widely publicised, in programme notes, discussed on here and all over social media. You'd have to be living under a rock to not be aware, and still be perplexed as to why away tickets have had your name written on (or someone else's).

However, the club should take away fan ejections in home ends at the Amex as seriously when people are clearly abusing that too.

If you are ejected from a ground (I haven’t been!) do you have to give your name, rank and number? I’m assuming you do otherwise how will the club know about you?

The way we're stewarded and policed I'd imagine, most of the time, they already have a name rank and number before ejecting and that's when the issues start.

Depends on which ground and probably how serious. I know someone that was ejected at Everton for being a bit pisses and calling Richarlason a **** a few times (and not listening to stewards’ warnings that he needed to calm down). His seat number or name weren’t reported back to BHA; he just missed the last 5-10 mins of us losing 0-1.

Thanks for that, Bozza. Makes more sense now, though I remain empathetic of the bloke in question who, assuming it’s true, says he has been taking his boys week in, week out since they were 5. I guess these problems are a side effect of success.

We kind of have the opposite problem at Grimsby his season, in that we have next to no system whatsoever. Following the incredible way we were promoted back into the league last season, we have over 5,500 season ticket holders (for the first time ever) but regularly receive away allocations well below 1,000 - for instance we’ve got 600 tickets for Harrogate away on Boxing Day. Essentially, it’s a free for all - first come, first serves for STH’s via an online booking system that doesn’t work very well under stress. Naturally, people aren’t happy with this system.

So yeah, I get both sides of the argument. Personally, I think a little bit of nuance and discretion would be helpful in this situation. If indeed the offenders in this case were children, then perhaps some kind of suspended sentence and a bit of dialogue from the club would be advantageous. “Now you know the rules, next time there will be no excuses”.

Ultimately, if the record shows that this family have been decent, loyal fans of the club for a significant period of time, I think perhaps the club should be giving him the benefit of the doubt. But I dunno, maybe that’s not a scalable model.

If we all "get why we are doing this" the thread would be about 2 pages long.

There's a world of difference between buying tickets and passing them on for a game you have no intention of going to in London and buying a ticket - presumably so they could sit together - for your other half in deepest darkest Wolverhampton (I give it 3 months by the way). Anyone could get a ticket for Wolves if they wanted one, the train strike was announced after the tickets went on sale and there is no easy way to send tickets back. By all means go tough on the London games - there is clearly abuse going on - but this situation seems completely OTT.

We all start somewhere. My lad got a spare for Forest away years ago, loved it, became a fan, is now a season ticket holder and the only Brighton fan at his school (we live in the Midlands). It's a shame this route in is no more in my eyes. Do I get a 10 game ban?
