Of course. The ticket was obtained falsely. And that was my original point. What harm was done. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. The club has chosen to create the issue because people without the loyalty points to get to all the games might miss out on a game. Or she might be a hooligan - because well, she's at a football match.

Just address the problem of the people who do get checked out/arrested. The rest of it is all unnecessary. A sledgehammer to crack a nut.
We're going round in circles here, so I'll finish by saying, it appears the problem hasn't been able to be dealt with individually and the club has finally said 'f*** this it's sledgehammer o'clock'.

We all knew this was happening.
Some didn't believe it.
I'm sure we'll be here again, proving the clubs point.

I bet pops quite happily took the points on offer!

On point 2 seems an obvious avoidable flaw in the process and simply code that any activity assigned to a fan number is emailed to the fan in question. Also works for the club as no defence of arguing you didn’t now for future issues

Do agree the fan assigned a ticket should be notified. Especially now the consequences are so harsh for misuse of tickets.

Really rather petty. I've done it before to allow a mate to come to a game who wasn't a member.

I've know of people that have gone in as an adult on a kids ticket purchase, that's more out of order.

I agree with the rest of your post though. I don’t buy it either. Surely the son would have mentioned it to his father? If not, why not? Something doesn’t add up.

I don't think it's unlikely that son tells Dad he's going to <insert away game here> with his girlfriend and Dad doesn't think much more about it than that.

From a quick snoop, I can see that Dad runs a very well-regarded local business (and from a further search, produces a product you have posted about enjoying on here), that I'm sure keeps him very busy indeed. As such, I could well believe that the specifics of ticket eligibility and procurement may not have been something considered.

In the Twitter thread, the Dad says that the club offered to transfer the punishment to his son but the Dad declined the offer.
I missed that on Twitter. If my son had done that, he would take the punishment. Learn by your mistakes. Harsh but fair.

How do you get to be a diehard awayer if the away tickets aren't sold fairly?
You go to Arsenal, Everton, Southampton, Liverpool, Man City etc...

The teacup this storm has brewed in seems to be related to two fairly local games with small allocations - which would never have got to All STH or Albion+ anyway.

I think the main problem was the fact that a high proportion of ejections and bellendery at away games were fans using someone else’s ticket.

But this is only a byproduct of the original misdemeanor.

Which if that hadn't been continually abused we wouldn't be here now.
As usual the minority spoiling it for the majority.

If it weren't possible to draw a straight line between buying tickets under false pretences and poor behaviour at games, Nimrod could have taken his Doris, jellyfish could have kept his points and nobody would be any the wiser.

Re: whether sons knew about the club sanctions/policy. Parent says in Twitter thread that he “knew about the rules” and that kids - also aware and in advance of match - altered the name on the ticket .(although he only found that out this week)

That was then, this is now scenario. I would imagine all of us in the past have have obtained an away ticket and passed it on to a friend. Same with when we had season ticket cards - they’re paid for therefore I’m entitled to pass it on. That was the then bit.

Now, of course, dems rules have changed. The club have decided, like it or not, that this is how it’ll be. To be fair they have let everyone know what the consequences would be if you transgressed. Moral of the story is don’t f*** them about and if you do, don’t get caught - and if you are caught don’t moan about how unfair it is.

Did Nimrod, Doris or the jellyfish misbehave at the game? I seem to have missed that.
Used dad's points, changed the name on the ticket knowing what they were doing, didn't tell dad till after the fact.

They broke the rules before, during and after.

So she wasn't coked up, or luzzing chairs, or bottle caps?
But those who have previously flouted bottle caps have been able to gain entry to games by identical means, hence the well publicised change of policy.

This has a feel of:-

'They only pavement parked across the double yellow, for 10 minutes, to pick up their takeaway, why should they get a ticket?'

He can put them on the ticket exchange

Part of the problem is the internet remembering card details. I can imagine he didn’t know what his sons did, so why isn’t one of them banned instead of him?
I think the punishment is a little harsh, but fair enough if the rules are set in stone.

But they should refund him for the tickets.
