I am rather glad i don't like best-selling items on the market. A list of general drivel akin to a list of the highest-earning Nestle confectionary brands.

I prefer KitKats to Avatar, so Nestle wins...

(But then I probably prefer Toy Story 3 to Nesquik - Jeez, these things are complicated)

Dark Knight is easily the best in the list imo. How Alice in Wonderland made that much I have no idea, thought it was pony.

Most of those films are the overproduced American shite that I hate to be honest. Avatar is the best example of all the technology and effects you could ever imagine but absolute pony story and characters. I wish other nationalities had the same budgets as the Americans as I cannot help but feel they would make the films so much better.

I think a big budget would ruin any of the more talented independent directors!! Part of the excellence (imo) of European or lesser budget cinema is derived from the tension of everyday life - normal domestic scenes we can all relate to, or real tumbledown urban environments and so on. Budget removes the film from reality - Michael Bay and Hollywood don't have time or inclination to do a romantic or evocative one minute shot of a hazy, rain-soaked Paris slum... or so on... because they are too busy dragging the perfunctory plotline through the next multi-million pound explosion, chase scene or ridiculous gunfight.

Indies don't need the money to entertain and provoke, that's why they are so good. I reckon.

I reckon that ranking films by box office growth is a marketing ploy to make recent hollywood output seem historically more successful, and therefore allow them to flog sequels and star vehicles off the back of it.

What would really interest me would be a list of top films by the number of people who paid to see them, then we'd have a better idea of the most loved films.

This, ten fold.

The dark knight is the best of those 10 for me - from what I've seen. I did enjoy avatar though. Haven't seen the new transformers yet!

Disney's "UP", for example, is one the best animated movies of all time. The 3D is subtle but really adds something - it is a better movie with 3D than without, but the movie is undoubtedly a masterpiece either way.

I once saw a 'How they made Gone With The Wind' type programme.
It was so engrossing the attention to detail was phenomenal.

One fact from it. Because all the extras in 'town' were either on another film or something.
The scene towards the end with all the soldiers lying dead or injured in the town square, was only acted by 20 people.

The rest were shop dummies with limbs being moved by said actors/extras.
