[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

Unfortunately, what I suspect we are going to see over the coming weeks and months is a lot of hysteria whipped up on social media about adverse events experienced by those taking the vaccines which are minor, expected and related to the vaccine or very rare serious adverse events where...

[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

Oxford vaccine results were published in the Lancet yesterday and are not behind a paywall: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)32661-1/fulltext There were no hopitalisations due to COVID or severe cases of COVID more than 21 days after the first dose of the...

Two weeks after the second dose I think. The doses were 1 month apart in both the AZD1222 trials, so around six weeks from the first dose.

I would also question whether Village Way and Falmer Road could really cope with the additional traffic. The aim is for 3000 vaccinations per day I think? That could be 300-400 people per hour. The lure of free parking and the disincentive for most of having to change buses or trains would mean...

Yes, I fully realise you are talking about the elderly. But don't fall into the trap of thinking that most people of a certain age are immobile or broke. Most people in the first vaccination priority groups identified will not fall into either of those categories. This is about mass vaccination...

    The Vaccine Thread

Eh? It has a drop off point right outside the entrance, several massive car parks nearby, numerous bus services within a short walk and an extremely well connected railway station half a mile away. Plus it's within walking distance for tens of thousands. I am really struggling to think of any...

[News] The Coronavirus Good News thread

That's the period it takes to become fully effective. Most people will start to have some protection prior to this. If they can get things moving quickly then I am hopeful we'll see a drop in deaths and hospitalisations even sooner.

    [Albion] Additional Seats

The council are responsible for issuing the stadium safety certificate and they follow the "green guide": The green guide explicitly states 28 seats per row: I think the club are unlikely to have found a loophole to exploit and any safety body would likely take a dim view if they had. I...

    [Albion] Additional Seats

They don't need planning approval for internal alterations, so we won't find out where they are going from planning documents. The only reason there is one for the north stand is because of the proposed change of use of the offices to a lounge. I am really puzzling on how they can find room for...

    [Albion] Additional Seats

Yes, that's correct for rows with a gangway at both ends. New stadiums follow the Green Guide: I am not sure they can get around this constraint. The club are planning to eventually add 1750 seats. We know from planning applications that the proposed new tier in the north stand and seats in...

[Technology] Pay by the mile road pricing...

You assume that these things won't be repurposed which is questionable surely? Taking your example of petrol stations, most of these in B&H are prime sites for housing or mixed use development which will bring in revenue that will offset losses, or even yield a net gain.

    [Albion] Amex expansion.

There has been a lot of to and fro between the club and council regarding transport, and this is presumably the only reason the application has yet to be considered by the planning committee. In summary: 9 March: The club provided a transport assessment with the original application. 10...

I doubt it will be allowed as one of the exclusion criteria in the trials would be participation in another clinical trial, so any interaction would be completely untested. I also doubt any vaccine would be initially available to children or pregnant women for the same reason.

Oxford / AZ vaccine is refrigerated not frozen, but is also a 2 dose affair. The Johnson & Johnson candidate, also in Phase 3 trials, is refrigerated and, I understand, single dose.

To go from genome sequencing of the virus to producing a vaccine proven to be efficacious and safe in around 9 months is an astonishing achievement.

Yes, I think there are definite similarities, especially when it comes to recruitment. We don't seem to be very interested in anyone over 21 unless they offer exceptional value for money.
