When I emigrated to Canada 30+ years ago I was amazed how often people ate out. From what I remembered from the UK I would only go out to a restaurant for special occasions or other celebrations. In Canada (Vancouver), even if you just went out to a pub for a beer or two it was normal practice...
We jumped in at the beta testing stage. Never had a problem.
Speeds do vary but never drop to the extent where it is unusable (unlike regular satellite internet, which we had for a while).
As other's have said, in a rural area where there are very few alternatives it is a game changer.
