    [Finance] Remortgage

Very true. I've just switched my current account to Natwest for the £175 switching bonus. Are they really going to recoup that amount from me in terms of business? I find it very hard to believe that they will.

[Misc] Customer Service, Whatever Happened To It?

Curry's are absolutely dreadful for customer service. After years of complaints, their solution to the problem wasn't to improve it - instead, they've created a sort of separate company called 'Team Knowhow' which is now responsible for their delivery and customer service network. The idea is...

    [News] Whaley Bridge.

The BBC reported that the dam has been "protecting Waley Bridge for 200 years". As if the resevoir would have been there anyway and the dam was somehow doing a heroic job holding it back.

[TV] Jack Hargreaves' home for sale

Now I don't doubt that the property has a shed, but the shed in Out of Town was as sure as eggs are eggs, in a recording studio.

[News] We all nearly died last Thursday

I think they would keep it quiet, but for selfish reasons. Those in the know would want to blow their savings extracting maximum enjoyment from their assets, while the rest of us are still beavering away keeping society safe and making our pension payments.

[News] We all nearly died last Thursday

Why would it matter at that point, if society descended into chaos and anarchy?

[Help] Anyone on here work for Virgin Media

Blimey - my BT broadband was out for a month and they offered me £1.97 in compensation. I was still expected to pay the bill in full even though there was no service.

[Football] The post AK mojo poll

Thanks for the use of "sea change". I always thought it was C-change, as in traversing the letter C - going along in one direction but then curving round and going the other, just like the letter C. We use the same with T-junction or T-shirt. However, googling it reveals that it is indeed sea...

[Misc] Things you used to be able to do before "Health & Safety" took over

As a student I had a holiday job at Gatwick Airport cooking chicken, fish and hamburgers. There was not a single word about hygiene training. No one bothered to wash their hands or anything daft like that. One of the regular 'chefs' used to spit on the grill to check it was hot enough. If he...

She'd be snapped up as a Match of the Day pundit, before she ever got near a bond film.

[Finance] How do you pay for things abroad?

That's a good deal on the Natwest credit card, i.e. no foreign transaction fees. Most mainstream banks own cards don't offer that though. Maybe its the start of a shift as they have noticed people have wised up about these foreign transaction fees and are using the 'specialist' cards.

[Finance] How do you pay for things abroad?

For ATM's the 3% charge after the first £200 is expensive.

[Finance] How do you pay for things abroad?

The individual card issuers don't get to set the rates - the rates will always be Mastercard or Visa's standard FX rates (which are very competitive).

[Finance] How do you pay for things abroad?

Yep - just make sure to get one of the specialist credit cards that don't impose a foreign currency charge. Be careful of using your usual bank debit card in the ATM's as most of them apply a large surcharge. In fact its usually better to use one of the aforementioned credit cards in...
