Don't necessarily agree with this. CMS and Best have obviously both gone. O'Grady probably will go or be fourth choice as he barely scored last season. The one I disagree with is Baldock. He looked good at times, despite playing out of position, and our season went downhill after his injury...
That's an amazing signing for Middlesbrough. Impressive if they can fund moves like this and still comply with FFP (especially as they're not on parachute payments and don't get the biggest crowds in the Championship). I actually think he's a very under rated player and was superb for West Ham...
In fairness, losing Baldock and, to a lesser extent, March left us very short of attacking players. We were terrible over the last month of the season but there were clear reasons for this. Hopefully the fans give Hughton a clean slate now he's been able to bring in a couple of players and work...
If this pre season has shown anything surely it is that nobody has an inside track. Yes, Maenppa was predicted but Rosenior, Hemed and Bong weren't predicted until about an hour before they happened.
Anyone who seriously judges Hughton on what happened the last couple of months of last season, when his already limited attacking options were affected by injuries to March and Baldock, is being very unfair. There were good games in the first few months e.g. Ipswich and Leeds but he had...
I would be very surprised and disappointed if this is the case. We unloaded five players at the end of last season (including CMS and Agustien who must have been high earners) and five loan players also left. If we're already having to let players go before we can buy, I'd be very surprised.
I hope you are the only one. I think we need four players (a centre back, two wingers and a striker). I don't understand how you'd be underwhelmed if we signed one of them and improved our squad. Fair enough if you are underwhelmed by the player we sign but if it's one of the above positions and...
Agree with this. Holla and Colunga both looked quality at times last year but not often enough. If we could get them both fit and playing to their potential, they could be crucial parts of the squad and be like two new signings.
Completely agree. Living in North London, I see quite a lot of Barnet (8 or 9 games last year) when Albion aren't playing. Akinde was superb for them in the Conference and I'm pretty sure he'll do well in League 2. Can't see him doing well in the Championship though and I would be shocked if...
Lots of defenders too! Collins, Buxton, Halford and Thorpe (who was released by Man U) are all centre backs and White and Mattock play left back.
As for Halford, if we're only signing one centre back, then I don't want to sign him. If he'd come in as back up with Greer to a new centre back and...
Interesting to see how Rea does. I know he's moved to defensive midfield from central defence but I'd say he'd be more likely to get a game in the latter. At the moment, we only have Dunk and Greer as centre backs and, if Naylor's 3 or 4 more signings is about right, I think only 1 of those will...
Must admit I didn't think of it that way but hope you're right.
Presumably we could still sign players next week and fly them out to the training camp if we wanted to.
I don't understand the purpose of this thread. It's been talked about quite a lot this summer already.
Walton looked good in his two games for the first team but they were only two. He needs regular first team football and if Hughton and the backroom team don't think he's ready for that with us...
I think he can get goals but needs support. It is very odd that we chased Baldock all summer and got him but then didn't play to his strengths. He said when he joined that he needed to play with a target man and we didn't provide that. Hopefully we'll learn our lesson this year and play to his...
But you have to start somewhere. I was starting to feel a bit fed up with our lack of transfer activity before this but, if Rosenior is a sign of the quality we're going to bring in, then it's going to be a much better season this year.
Not sure how you can be unhappy. He's played a lot of games at this level and above and is still only 30. Very experienced defender and Hull fans seem genuinely gutted that they released him. Will be interesting to see if we do sign another full back and use him at right back or if he's our...
